party food - WDWWT?

Trying to plan food for Dex's party.  I am not cooking.  So my options seem to be:

* Dollar rolls/fruit tray from the grocery store deli
* have someone else "cater" burgers & dogs
* some kind of family-style/catering take-out (Qdoba, Fazoli's, Olive Garden)

Odds are good the party will be on the deck.  It'll mostly be adults.

Any other ideas to throw into the mix?

    I like choice #2 or 3.

Most of those places will deliver too.

    What are dollar rolls?

I don't think I'd cater burgers and dogs.   Do you have a GFS?  Their pulled pork/chicken/beef is really good.  The temps are cooling and soup might be another option.

SIL is a vegetarian, but she's usually content with chips and potato salad or whatever the sides are.

    What is GFS?

Dollar rolls is what these weird midwesterners call those mini-buns the deli often makes sandwiches out of.  Like finger sandwiches, but on a little dinner roll.

Now that you mention it, I had never heard that term until I moved here, either.

I think we are looking at 20 adults and 10 kids invited.  I expect maybe 10 adults and 5 kids.

That looks all kinds of dry.

Anyway, you know you're crowd, so get what you think they will like.

GFS is a Gorton Food Services.  They do a lot of food for schools and stuff, but they also have retail shops that sell the food.  It's pretty good stuff at good prices.

I like burgers and dogs, it just seems an odd thing to cater.  I'd lean toward the take out, but other options might be to order pizza with tossed salad or fried chicken and sides.

If it's cool or later at night I think the take out would be good.  For earlier or warmer weather go for the sandwiches.

I say "cater," but the burgers and dogs is, I think, just a guy DH knows who will do the grilling for us.

IDK. None of these seem like bad options.  I can't believe I didn't think of pizza.  We have no GFS that I know of. Bummer.

Maybe I'll just order whatever I'm personally in the mood for as the date approaches. :)

I would have a chili dinner.  One big vat of chili, crackers, and condiments.

in illinois, hot dogs can be "catered," in that most hot dog restaurants will send over a hot dog cart, complete with fixings and the little red and yellow umbrella.

i've seen it done for weddings.  it is awesome.
