Wedding Band vs No Wedding Band

My fiancé picked out my engagement ring all by himself - it's perfect and I love it so so much, but the ring didn't come with a wedding band. We went and looked at bands today and I wasn't really happy with anything. Is it weird to buy a wedding band as a simple alternate ring for travel and adventure, and just wear my engagement ring everyday? Does anyone else do this?

Re: Wedding Band vs No Wedding Band

  • That's what my FI and I decided to do.  In addition to less money being spent, my band is think and I don't think that another band would work well with it.  What did you decide on doing?
  • Jewelry is a personal decision.  I think it's fine to wear your wedding band for every-day, and your engagement ring for special occasions.  Or, if your e-ring fits on your right hand you could just wear it on your right hand and your wedding band on your left.   No matter what, do what YOU feel comfortable with and don't let other people pressure you one way or another.

If you like the e-ring that much, I would just get a thin plain wedding band to wear with it.  I had suggested just using my e-ring as my wedding band and DH did not like the idea at all.

  • I only wear my engagement ring.  We originally used a wedding band that came with my set but I just hated the feeling of two rings on my finger (made my fingers feel "smooshed" or something) and I hated the look of them on separate hands even more.  So I just retired my wedding ring to the jewelry box and wear the engagement band.  I wish I had never done a wedding band at all because it's kind of sad not wearing the same thing we used in the ceremony, but we're just as married this way and it doesn't bother H.

[QUOTE]I'm not doing a wedding band. The shape of my ring doesn't really allow for one unless we got one custom made, and then I think it would throw off the look of it. I do plan on getting a simple band to wear when travelling, etc. So I think it's fine!

I was also going to suggest no wedding band.  I have friends/family that only wear their e-ring no wedding band.

  • I'm doing the same thing.  I'm getting a simple band to wear for traveling (and for when I want to wear white gold vs. yellow gold... I'm weird with mixing golds.)
  • My engagement ring has a thicker band as well and I don't like the look of rings with wedding band wraps. So we opted to treat my engagement ring as my wedding band as well ... all in one! I love it. Do what makes you happy, it's a personal decision.

  • I'm with AFP07, I love my e-ring, but unless it's an occasion, I don't plan on wearing it all the time. My band is beautiful all on its own and my e-ring does have a tendancy to get caught on things.
