Florida-West Coast

west coast venues

Hi,

I'm new to the Knot and this is my first post!  I just got engaged, and am very excited, but am feeling a little overwhelmed with starting the planning process!  I've always loved the idea of a beach wedding, and the west coast of Florida provides those beautiful sunset pics :)  I've looked at South Seas Island Resort in Captiva, and am also interested in any venues in Naples, or anywhere along the western coast of Florida.  I want a beach ceremony, and an outdoor tented reception.  Has anyone had/been to a wedding at captiva?  or in naples?  do you know of outdoor reception sites?  Any general advice??  Thanks for the help!!

Congratulations!!! If you are looking at South Seas other venues you might look into include the Ritz in both Naples and Sarasota, Casa Ybel on Sanibel, and La Playa in Naples. Those are other beautiful beach venues in the area I would consider "on-par" with South Seas who can probably accomidate an outdoor event. Weddings on Captiva and the West Coast of FL are beautiful!!!!
My advice when speaking with venues is to look around a lot and if you find one you are really interested in tactfully and politely try to negotiate. If budget is a concern don't take the package prices for face value. See if they are willing to work with you on price or add things in to the base price for no additional charge. I spoke seriously to a few of the venues listed above and all the venues I talked to came down significantly from their stated package prices if I was willing to compromise on certain points.
Don't commit unless you are sure. Also you may consider hiring a planner- I am sooooo glad I did! Good luck and happy planning!!!!

I am a Naples bride too!  I ditto the previous suggestions above.  Also, you can always get married on the beach with a ppermit from collier county parks and recs and have the reception somewhere else, as long as you don't mind traveling.  Cocounut POint Hyatt in Estero is GORGEOUS and has SO many options for that type of wedding.

Thank you for the advice!!  Which venues did you end up choosing?

Also, thinkingpink2010, I have a couple questions about wedding planners . . . did you hire one based in Florida or from your hometown?  how did you find/choose your planner, and do you have any recommendations?  I know several of the venues offer day-of consultants, but I've been thinking about getting a wedding planner to assist with all the planning!

    Thanks again!

I didn't choose any of the above venues because we ended up with a large guest list and the ones I was really interested in couldn't accommodate us their ballrooms. I was the opposite of you and didn't want a tent :)  I am a local and I personally know people who have been married at all the venues I listed and I have heard and seen nothing but good things.
My planner was Kelly with Weddings by Socialites. She is local and I was very very happy I hired her. She came recommended from a friend. The reason I would hire a local planner is because they are more familiar with the area and the vendors and venues. They can also help you create a realistic budget since they know the typical prices in the area. My venue had a coordinator as well but having someone there who was specifically helping with my wedding  including set up and break down and vendor coordination was a huge help. It really let me not worry and just enjoy the weekend!

I was going to ask the exact same questions on your post.  Did you end up booking a beach wedding and what venue are you using??  I am planning a West Coast Beach Wedding in June and I am currently searching for vendors and locations.  Have you tried www.sandpetalweddings.com???  I am interested in their luau wedding but not sure if it is worth the cost.  Please let me know where and what you ended up selecting.

    :-)
