What Registries work best for you?

I am a big wally world fan, and so is my FI's mother's side. But when I registered and went to add items in-store I was blind sighted how badly their registry system was run. I had an extremely bad experience. In the end I had to teach their associates how their own computers worked, and I was told that I can make a registry but I could not add anything in store.

It left me with a bad taste in my mouth to say the least. A lot of wedding planning has been stressful and this was supposed the fun part of being engaged. Later I was able to go to Target, register in store and had a blast. Target doesn't have everything wanted put on our registry though.

I want to cut the bs and register with companies that make the process friendly. What registry did you find to have a easier, funner, friendlier process?

Thank you in advance.

I registered at C&B, BBB and Macy's.  Out of all 3, I find Macy's the most annoying because they keep discontinuing things and then the next week they are not discontinued anymore.  But really, that is not a dealbreaker for me since I'm the one who registered a little on the early side.

My favorite items are at C&B and they have been great to work with so far.   They are also famous for their registry parties - which are fab because they close down the whole store just for those registering.  They also get what you are there for and do not hound you.

  • We did Macy's and BB&B and had good experiences with both.

I can't say I'm terribly surprised that walmart doesn't have a great registry system.  They aren't exactly known as that type of business.
  • I did Bed, Bath, and Beyond and Crate & Barrel- love how both of them work!

  • Crate & Barrel is probably the most userfriendly.  I also registered rather early, and I got a nice email this morning letting me know that a couple of things have been discontinued as they go into a new season.  I appreciate that sort of service.  I also really like Macys, Pottery Barn, and Williams Sonoma.  I'm sort of meh about BBB because I just don't really like how the website looks, and their shipping is expensive.  But we registered there anyway because it's so common in my circle that I know people will look there.

I hate shopping off of target registries - it seems like most brides go in store and then there isn't much left online.  Walmart also seems like a strange place to me to register - it's not known for that sort of thing.  If you want a good experience, stick with a department store or an exclusively home goods store.  Registries are where they make a lot of their money, and they are usually much more adept at keeping customers and brides happy than walmart and target.

  • We did BBB and Amazon.com.  We live in TX and my family is in WI and his is in GA.  So- Macy's, and other stores,  were out. (We dont have them near my home town, but they have them near his.)

Amazon has a really cool Universal Registry.  You can download a button to your internet browser, so no matter where you're shopping, it will link it to your registry (along with things you find on amazon.com) So, for example- I was super pissy about how bad Target's registry sucks, so I found things on Target.com and added them to my Amazon registry.  Then- people can go straight to target or go through amazon.com to pick them up.  If they get it at target, they can "reserve" it on the registry (so even though it wasn't purchased through amazon.com people know it was purchased).  :)
  • Kitty02kat.... thanks for the info on the Amazon Universal Registry! I'm going to have to look into this!!
