Any Ideas?

Hi everybody, I'm just starting to plan my wedding for September 2012, and I'm on an extremely low budget, and plan on doing a lot of DIY projects, but I need to find a cheap but elegant looking venue, I've already decided on my caterer, so I need a place that allows outside catering, I was looking to spend maybe $400-$500 on the venue, and looking for somewhere between Reynoldsburg & Gahanna. Also, any DIY ideas would be much appreciated, I know I want butterflies to be the theme, and the colors... I'm not sure, my husband likes baby blue with a chocolate brown... we've been married before (this is a vow renewal- our first wedding wasn't what we wanted) but we used those colors already... I think I'd like either baby blue & black or pink & black... I don't know... Any help?

Thanks,

Becky

I would suggest you check out Olde Gahanna Sanctuary. http://www.gahannasanctuary.org/

I've never been to a wedding here, but I had looked into it when I had started planning. I don't remember what the rental cost is, but if I remember correctly they will let you bring in whatever caterer that you want.

If you are planning a lot of DIY, you should also check out the DIY board.

Also, I love etsy and had saved this is a favorite when I was planning, and was going to try to make it myself but didn't have time. They are butterfly escort cards, so that might be something to DIY if you are trying to incorporate butterflies.

Sorry TK won't let me edit my last post, but I also wanted to add that I think that vow renewals are fine and wonderful, but just make sure that you don't call it a wedding since that isn't what it is. You don't want to confuse people! Good luck!

I was just going to suggest the Old Gahanna Sanctuary.  If I remember correctly, I think the rental fee is $900ish, but you get the place the ENTIRE day and they basically have no rules.  You are free to bring in alcohol, caterers, decorations, etc. and tables and chairs are included.

Oh also the Swim and Racquet Club is further away (Upper Arlington), but it looks really nice and is only $500 for non-members and $300 for members!  Plus you can BYOB and your own caterer.

We had our wedding at the Olde Gahanna Sanctuary this past September because we were also on a very tight budget and needed a place where we could bring in our own alcohol and an outside caterer.

The rental fee is (or was) $975 total (half down, half a month out). There's only people to talk to between 6 and 8 pm on Thursdays in order to go see it (they have classes and other things scheduled throughout the week, but have open houses on Thursdays). Rental fee includes all chairs and tables (round tables, fit 8 people per table, and plenty of white chairs for 175 people).

It looks drab when you first see it, but with a bit of decor it turns out extremely nice, and is a pretty unique venue with the old stained glass windows. There's also a stage and a great place to have your bartenders right off the stage. We served our food in the second room to allow more space in the main room (and helped with the buffet line not being there also).

We had our friends bartend and brought our own alcohol and beer. Our caterer was Laura at Laura's Catering (www.lauras-catering.com) and she provided pourers and mixers, tubs and ice, plastic cups and napkins and garnishes for $4 per person which worked out beautifully. White, black and cream table linens are included with her catering price also (and she doesn't have additional service charges on top of the food / per server cost either).

As for colors - try baby blue and grey or bright pink and slate grey, it's a more modern take on the colors you're considering. Of course I love black myself (our colors were black and champagne, with pops of bright red).

We did a LOT DIY so if you have any questions just let me know :)
