where to get measured

I am in a friend's wedding and she wants to order the bridesmaid dress from me from a shop in New York, so I have to call her with my "professional measurements."  Do you know of a shop around the Northern VA/DC area where I can go and get that done? I've never been measured for anything besides my own wedding dress! Thanks!

You can go to a dry cleaners or do it yourself.  Here is the information that the bridal shop gave to my girls:

Measurements consist of  bust, waist and hips only :
    • bust (the FULLEST part of the bust. . .not underneath the bust, not above the bust but right across the CENTER)
    • natural waist:  the smallest part of  torso.  . .usually at or slightly above your belly button
    • low hips:  the fullest part of the hips. . .typically across the middle of the bum

The girls can have their drycleaner measure them or they can measure themselves.

You can get a flexible tape measurer at any cvs, rite aid, walgreens etc. . for $2.99 or less.  One word of caution. . . .IF the girls measure themselves they should be GENEROUS in their measurements. . .It's alot easier to take a dress in than to let it out :)

You cannot get accurate measurements doing it yourself. When your arms are raised the bust and waist measurements will be off.

I had to do the same for a wedding in NC last year. Claire Dratch in Bethesda will take your measurements for only $10, and if they happen to carry the same dress as the salon in NY, they will let you try it on to see how it looks.
