Delegation has begun!

Up until now, I've done almost all my planning. I'm to the point where I think my to-do list is more than I can do in 2 1/2 weeks, and since my BMs (and other friends) are constantly asking how they can help, I've decided to relinquish my control-freak ways and start delegating.

I posted a big huge list of things that aren't done yet on to Google Docs and am sharing it with anyone who offers to help. Then they can go in and edit it, add comments, "claim" tasks that they'll take care of, and note what they've gotten done. So far all the girls are loving the idea! The only person I'm having problems with is my mom, who is constantly asking "wait, I thought you had this done?" which is totally not helpful. :\

Anyone else gotten to the point where they're ready to hand off everything for someone else to worry about?

Re: Delegation has begun!

  • Love the idea!  My FMIL wants to help a lot too, so I finally let her help with wood burning the rest of our table numbers.  I showed her how I did them (Sunday afternoon, mind you), and at first she wasn't getting it, but oh well.  I figured doing another 10+ would take her a little while.....I talked to FI yesterday at lunch and she had finished!  haha  Now I have to come up with more stuff for her to do.

  • I want to delegate...I just have a hard time having faith in others to dedicate time to our wedding....it doesnt' seem like that big of a deal to everyone else...FI and I seem to be the only ones in "go mode".....I do want to delegate tho!!!  Maybe Im just to much of a control freak...lol..hahaha

  • That's why I did it as a Google Doc where they can pick what they want to do. That way they can go "oh yeah, that one's not bad. I'll handle it." Like for instance, I HATE calling places and I tend to work during normal business hours, so my MOH (a SAHM) tends to volunteer for anything that involves calling somewhere.

  • Today was my first day... I realized I just couldn't do it all. I also just started a new job, I'm essentially the marketing person, so not only am I trying to meet with all my vendors, but also at charity dinners, marketing events or out smoozing almost every night of the week. Last night was the first night I was home and I worked out all our readings, got sign off from FI, and started the programs. So i'm sending MOH (sister) to Michaels for all the need to haves for the programs.... I'm just never gonna get there - and If i don't take charge, my father will spearhead this (he thinks hes creative - he's not) and it will just be a piece of paper with a fancy font.
