Outdoor September wedding?

Hi ladies -

I just started planning my New Hampshire wedding, and our date is set for September 10th. I was just curious about holding a wedding outside in September and the weather.

Would it be too cold to expect guests to stay out under a tent from 4-9 pm?

Thanks for your opinions :)

It could be 80 degrees or it could be 45 degrees... That's the beauty of New England -- you never know what the weather will be like! I would have an indoor back-up plan if the weather does not cooperate, but you really won't be able to tell until a week before.

I'm getting married at Cathedral of the Pines this weekend.  The weather forecast changes every day.  I would just let guests know it's outside and have an inside back up plan.  Most likely you'll be fine but again as PP said it's NE and we can't predict.

Outdoor venues are tough because of weather, you could have your wedding in July and worry about 100 degree heat or a crazy rain storm so you just have to do what works for you.

What venues are you looking at?

You could have a warm day or it could be very brisk in Sept.  If you're thinking of having a tented wedding reception, I'm sure the tent vendor / venue providing the tent could provide heaters so that you stay nice and warm.   Plus all the body heat and dancing will keep you toasty if it's chilly.  =)

Our wedding is planned for 9/3/11 and the ceremony is going to be held outside with the reception indoors at the same site, (so in the event of inclement weather--we'll move the ceremony inside to the reception area and people will just be seated at their tables).  We chose this arrangement because we had the same concerns about unpredictable weather in NH in Sept---but are REALLY hoping for a beautiful early fall day for the outdoor ceremony.  The site we're using is in Jaffrey, NH, (halfway between Nashua and Keene).  www.shattuckweddings.com

    Good luck!

We just started planning our outdoor wedding for September 10 2011 (I'm assuming yours would be in 2011 too), so we're date twins! I think there is a very good chance the weather will be fine, it will probably get a little chilly at night, but if you have sides for the tent it should be ok.
Then again it's NH and you really never can predict the weather, whether it is September, January, or July. It snowed the day of my junior prom in May! There's a reason people say "If you don't like the weather in NH, wait five minutes," it's so unpredictable.
If possible maybe you could see if you can reserve heaters or be able to get them on short notice in case of extreme cold from your rental company or the reception site, for some peace of mind. But I think it should be ok, September is really one of the nicest months in NH!
