Switching Boards/ Intro

I hope you ladies don't mind me joining you. My husband and I are planning a vow renewal ceremony/ Lucky 7th anniversary party. I realize vow renewals aren't popular on the boards but it is what it is. We were originally planning this for April (to corespond with my commencment for my BA; I am no longer going to participate) but changed it to be closer to our actual anniversary. I've got most of my ducks in a row except for invites... and entertainment. Can't wait to finish this planning journy with you ladies!

Re: Switching Boards/ Intro

  • Welcome! Congrats on 7 years of marriage. I personally don't see anything wrong with a VR. As a military bride, we see people come on that board and say they're JOPing now and doing the big wedding later when really it's a VR.

What are your colors? Dress? Etc...

Colors right now are purple, blue, and green. We are doing a handfasting using our tartans and those are the colors our two tartans have in common. Right now we are planning a small affair with about 30 people. We are renting an event tent to put in our back yard which is a pretty spiffy garden, if I do say so myself. So sort of like an English high tea theme. I found my dress a while ago. It's very traditional but in an off white colorr. Here's some pics:

  • Thank ya! Your honeymoon looks divine, BTW

  • welcome to our month board. There is absolutely nothing wrong with vr & most will say so as long as they are done the proper way. Running to the courthouse to get married then having a "real wedding" which is technically a vr is where the problem lies.

You are fine, your backyard is beautiful!

Your backyard looks awesome!  I bet you've put a ton of work into it.  What do you have left to do in the planning process?
  • Welcome!! And like PP stated, its not the VR that is frowned upon on the boards, its when people do the JOP thing then have the big wedding later on as if they were never married. As long as its done correctly its NBD :)

Your yard looks amazing! And I love your dress!

  • Welcome!  Ditto PPs, a VR is not a problem as long as you're willing to admit it's a VR :)

    Your dress is lovely!

Thanks ladies! Yes it's definitly a vow renewal LOL!  Yes, we've put a LOT of work into the backyard. It's the best part of the house! So far left in the planning process is getting invites out. Which I need to do ASAP. Some of our April invites already went out and now I have to explain which is going to be a PITA but only polite to inform those people NOW. We still need to find some entertainment as well like a DJ or a band... haven't decided which one we want yet.  Then all the little fun stuff like decor.

  • What your doing is not frowned upon - what is frowned upon is "we went and got married at the courthouse 6 months ago and didn't tell anyone but we still want our big pretty princess party wedding day"

Sounds like you have a fun day planned!
  • Congrats and Welcome!
  • WELCOME! :)

I think it's more that people have a problem JOPing, having a vow renewal and then calling it a wedding, when it's not (like Zims said) that people have the problem with. We're pretty friendly over here, so we don't really care. We also have a facebook group that we post on very frequently if you want to join us over there as well.
