Bottle Invites?

Has anyone done these? And how long do they take?!
I made boarding pass STD and everyone loved it.
I've been wanting to try the message in a bottle but realizing how time consuming the boarding passes were (perforating... cutting... designing the template... etc) I want to know what to expect before buying all the materials (costs, time, tips, etc.)!

I haven't attempted this, but I think it would be quite expensive.  The invitation paper wouldn't be very expensive, but then you would be limited to thinner papers that can be rolled (as opposed to cardstock).  Then you have to buy the bottles.  Plus you have significant shipping costs per invitation.  They seem less labor intensive than boarding passes, but more expensive to execute.

Hi!! I'm doing them for my STD in Sept.

I'm only sending out like 50 so overall the cost didn't really matter to me. Not sure about shipping LOL.

Glass bottles with corks and mailing boxes were approx $1.25 each
Sand $5.00, real shells(300pc) and starfish(100pcs) $6.00, raffia $2.00, paper $8.00, ink for printer, ribbon $5.00, glue $2.00, glue gun, tags $2.00, drink umbrellas etc. All of these things were either bought with coupons at Michaels, I already had them or I searched the internet for deals on ebay.

I can tell you already that it's a lot of work, plus you will probably not be able to fit everything you will need for the wedding invites into the box..(like RSVP & envelope, directions, etc) The box is small and doesn't have much room for anything but the bottle. This is why I'm doing them for save the dates.

Boarding pass invites allowed me to have more space for all the info. Hope this helps!

We did message in a bottle stds from www.invitationinabottle.com. I think we spent about $150 or so on them for 40 bottles.  It's been a while so I'm not sure if that's exact.  Everyone thought they looked great!

I haven't done these, but I know someone else who did and said the big cost was shipping them. It was over $5 per bottle.
