Resolutions!

Does anyone have any good new year's resolutions?

I don't really set "resolutions", I usually list some goals I would like to achieve over the course of the year.  It's fun to look at last year's goals to see what I did or need to work on! For this year, I mostly want to get in better shape for the wedding (my gym going fell off the radar before Christmas), now the Christmas eating season is over...and to not sweat the small stuff so much!

Re: Resolutions!

I agree I don't typically do NY Resolutions. I find they are almost too ambitious and people evenutally stop.

I prefer to do Lent. The 40 days leading up to easter when you give up something you love. I always do something and I always finish the full 40 days. I prefer to have a set amount of time so I can see the end. This year I'm thinking about eating clean, meaning cutting out all the crap out of my diet(i need to research this some more). If that seems to difficult I think I'm going to cut white flour and white sugar out of my diet. It should be pretty tough but I think it will be good for me.

I also want to get in shape for the wedding. I dont necessarily want to loose weight, more so tone up. My gym buddy reminded me yesterday at  the gym during our double header of classes, that the wedding is only 8months 3 weeks and 4 days away. I better get at it. hahaha

  • I also just set goals for myself. I want to get more toned for our wedding, so my FI and I joined our local YMCA and we have went every day since the 2nd (I do realize its only been 4 days but thats pretty good for us lol) and I have joined a cardio and toning class they offer there twice a week. Now lets just hope I can stay to it!!

  • I agree with you guys! I want to tone up, and build my endurance--I don't want to shrink down to much, and spend alot on alterations!

I have tried giving up wheat/white flour as much as possible...FI and I together...and tried to cut back on meat, eating more vegetables and adding tofu to a stir fry instead of chicken.  This is after watching "Forks over Knives" of course!

I have also decided to go a whole month only drinking water and see how I do.  I used to be pretty well addicted to diet Coke, and have struggled to give it up completely but have really cut back on drinking it.  I also drink a lot of juice and sweet drinks.  I want to see how I feel after a month!

  • I also decided to stop drinking pop and coffee and drink between 8-10 8oz glasses of water a day, and I just started doing this january 1st and to date i have lost 8 lbs between working out and cutting pop and coffee and drinking water. I havent really even changed my diet except eating breakfast (multigrain cherrios with a banana) instead of skipping. I am not very big to begin with either and it is just kind of coming off. Crazy what cutting one or two things can do.

  • Good job! That's motivating to hear :)
  • I don't do resolutions, HOWEVER I am getting married this year and I want to have the best arms, shoulders, and back. So starting monday, when our son goes back to school FI and I will be going back to the gym, REGULARLY. Like Everyday except for Saturday and Sunday. I am going to tighten up this flabby mom body and get into optimum shape for this wedding. I have 20 lbs to get rid of by September and I am totally ready to focus and be in tip top shape. Oh and i've already started a teeth whitening regimen and new skincare regimen. Cheers for healthiness!

  • We should change the title of this thread to Fitness goals! Or we should have a dedicated thread to talk about fitness/getting in shape...keep each other motivated :)
  • My goal is similar to all of yours! Eat healthier and get into better shape :) I already started the whole process in the autumns so I lost all the weight I wanted to and now I just want to tone up and get into better shape. My FI is still wokring on losing weight, and I hope he will continue going to the gym too. Now that we are not living in the same country we cant exactly go to the gym together anymore so I hope he stays strong and goes.
I also decided to make a jar into which I will put small notes about good things that happen during the year, that way at the end of the year I can look back and see what  a great year 2013 was!
I also have a goal to start saving money so I can buy a car :)
That's as far as my goals for 2013 go.

Semi891 I think a fitness thread would be fun!
  • My resolutions are to improve my work-life balance so that I worry less, enjoy life more and bring order to my home in terms of getting home projects done more regularly and not feeling overwhelmed.  Of course I want to get toned too but with my crazy schedule the gym would just be taking my money so I'll have to do old fashioned home exercising like push ups and sit ups and others like that.  I also have a stationary bike at home and can walk around my neighborhood.
  • I make a list of goals every year.  Then I got engaged and it changed my goals for the year midyear.  This year I have a more flexible list (out of 20 things I wanted to accomplish last year I completed 15 of them) to take into account that unexpected things keep happening!

I want to focus more on exercise.  I've been trying to incorporate some exercise (even if it's small) into everyday.  So far I'm doing a good job with it.  I also want to learn to cook.  I'm not great at it and I don't want to starve when I move lol!
  • I just want to eat better and tone up.  I'm already pretty thin, but my dress is very fitting and I refuse to be the lumpy girl in the bodyhugger!  FI and I have been waking up early and I do a workout DVD in the living room while he takes the dog jogging; it's been working pretty well so far!

I also have a ton of things to accomplish in our house, but they're more goals and not resolutions.
