Cupcakes and cake topper - which do we cut?

So we are doing cupcakes with a small (6" round) cake on the top. We want the actual cake for the top to be what we save and eat on our anniversary.
So should we just cut a cupcake for our 'cake cutting' or cut that small cake on the top?

If you want to save the small cake for you anniversary then cut or split a cupcake. Normally the small cake is for cutting but there really is no wrong way to go about it.

If you want to save the round cake, then definitely cut into that one. It's not going to stay as fresh once you cut into it. Opt for the cupcake instead.
