Hello Knotties,

My fiance and I are getting married in NOLA next March (coming from Dallas) and we are coming to visit next week for our 2 yr anniversary, his birthday, and some vendor visiting. Can someone tell me fun places/things for the two of us to do while we're there? Great local restaurants that have good food and aren't too touristy? Anything to stay away from? The vendor visiting is only taking up half a day so we will have almost 3 full days. Thanks in advance.

    Also the zoo might be a great trip now that the weather's cooled down some. Go to the Fly behind it as well. Nice place to watch a sunset with a snowball in hand!

    Speaking of that... Plum street snowballs. Get the nectar cream flavor. Seriously don't consider anything else until you've had a nectar cream.

    Frenchmen Street!  Like a smaller, less cheesy Bourbon St.

    For fine dining, I love Bayona or August...for cheap eats in the Quarter, Johnny's Po-boys or Central Grocery (for the original muffaletta)...

    Preservation hall
    The cabildo
    St Charle Ave Street car
    K-Paul's for dinner
    have a hurricane at Pat O's
    and maybe take a french qtr or garden district tour

    Thanks carolemb! That page is awesome! We have one like it in Dallas called pegasusnews.com. Same concept and great info. This will def help along with all the suggestions.

    If you are there on a week day, you should do lunch at Commander's Palace.  Martinis are 25 cents each M-F at lunch.  You'll find plenty of locals there at lunch - just be sure you are appropriately dressed.  Don't let that scare you, just ask about the dress code when you make a reservation.  This is one of our family's favorite things to do.  Daughter and college friends always go.

    Take the green streetcar up to Cooter Brown's (at the Riverbend) to try some fresh-shucked oysters and a cold beer (they have what seems like a million on draft).

    If it's nice out, take the Algiers ferry across the river to old Algiers (it's like bizarro Uptown/Garden District New Orleans).  Walk a few blocks and grab a beer at the Old Point bar.

    Have a Pimm's Cup at the Napoleon House and a Sazerac at Sazerac Bar (in the recently renovated and historic Roosevelt Hotel).

    Catch a show at le Bons Temps, the Maple Leaf or Tipitina's.

    Try Katie's restaurant in midcity. Great neighborhood restaurant one block off the Canal street streetcar line. Lots of locals and good prices. Central grocery for muffalettas, commander's palace for something really nice. The aquarium, insect museum, ride the streetcar, French quarter walking tour. Have fun!
