The Venue - Name Change?

Hey ladies,
I just read this blog post on Columbus Bride (because it features my awesome photographer Kelly Maughan) and the article says...

The reception took place at Dock 580 (formerly the Venue at Smith Brothers).

Has anyone heard of this name change? It's not on their website yet.

    Yeah that is weird, I have not heard of the name change, I wonder if they went under new management or something.

    I have heard great things about that venue. But I wasn't aware of the name change.

    I just had my wedding there and it was still the venue at smith brothers. Not sure if it changed after...

    i would just say it's a mistake but the source is columbus bride which is usually reputable. it does seem like a weird name but i guess it is a loading dock and 580 4th street is the address...hmm.

    thanks for chiming in lyssa. i was wondering if any other recent brides had heard anything. who knows?

    It's actually true. I'm getting married there soon and they emailed me to let me know of the change. It won't affect us but they said the signs will be their soon. Not sure how I feel about it. I really like the name as is!

    I have no idea! If I had to guess they were looking for something more modern sounding? The email states they are the same people and the same food so I am wondering if they were having issues with the name being called "The Venue" as it doesn't really search well and isn't that original. I really liked "The Loft at Smith Brothers" but I don't think it will really change much. I'm just glad it will happen after the wedding because I have printed the name on the invites and our guest book! Glad I could help :)

    My wedding is booked at The Loft at Smith Bros for March 17, 2012. I just received an email (this afternoon) regarding the name change. Here's what it says:

    "We are in the process of re-naming the company
    to 'Dock 580.'  We are not selling or changing management, but
    re-branding to reach new markets. The staff you have been working
    with all remain to serve you.

    This change will take place shortly, however the signage will not be
    change until first quarter 2012.  In planning your event, you should
    make the necessary adjustment to your invitations."

    Quite frankly, I'm a little annoyed to hear about this change just now, since other people and media sources were notified sooner. The change WILL likely affect my wedding. Luckily, I haven't printed invitations yet, although I'll have to make changes to my wedsite and such.

    Also, Dock 580 sounds pretty dumb. To which dock are they referring? The ugly loading docks at their facility? Because that's the only dock I can think of in the vicinity...

    Oh well, it's not the end of the world.

    I'm really glad I read this. I'm getting married at (formerly?) The Loft in August 2012 and had no clue they were changing their name. Not sure when they were planning on notifying me about it...

    I've also heard that they are going through a rebranding as Dock580, but my impression was that they were also keeping the names The Venue and The Loft for the two different rooms they have available.

     It appears that Dock580 is just the name of the whole company, and whatever room name we have booked our weddings in will stay the same.

    There is no change in managment or anything according to the email they sent, just a change in the name. I am also having my wedding there next year and recieved an email to inform us of the name change. I thinks it sounds better the way it is but they said they are re-branding to reach a different market... not sure who/what that entails, but whatever!
