Need opinions...is this dress too formal for Hawaii beach wedding?

I saw this dress and something about it caught my eye.  I'm short (5'1") and don't usually go for too many heavy details.  But I like the shape and hope it will be figure flattering.  Do you ladies think it's too much for a beach elopement?  And is it too trendy???

  • Personally, if I were getting married on the beach, I would choose something more flowy.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I don't think it is too much for a beach ceremony becasue the fabric looks very light. But like Addie said I would go for something a bit more flowy and simple.  But in no way do you have to because that may not be your style.

I think the dress is very pretty and I wouldn't be too concerned about whether or not it is trendy.  You need to purchase a dress you love now not one that you may love 50 years from now.

I think it would work for a beach ceremony but I would just keep all other accessories very simple.

  • I tended to go for VERY simple bridal gowns (the one I decided on is a drapey, sort of Grecian inspired one-sholder sheath, no beading or anything) and I'm also getting married outside. However, I think this dress is absolutely beautiful! It's sort of trendy, in the sense that I've seen quite a few dresses with those sorts of embellishments, and it is sort of mermaid-y, but I think it still looks classic. And as PP says, you have to go with what YOU love, regardless of whether or not it's trendy. When I saw the title of your post, I was prepared to see a giant, heavy, princess ballgown! But I think this is pretty flowy, it's extremely flattering on you - which is a nice bonus! - and I think it could work on the beach.

  • I think you look really pretty in this and I love the dress too. I don't think it's too much for a beach wedding in Hawaii. The hawaiian flowers are absolutely beautiful too and they're exotic so naturally look a little more sophisticated and will go very well with the dress. I think it would be a beautiful dress for your ceremony. Also, as another knottie said, it's a light fabric so it would work on the beach. If you love this dress then I would absolutely wear it for your wedding!!
  • Go for it!  I think it is very pretty and you look gorgeous in it.  It is not a "typical" beach wedding dress, but who cares?  I think its just fine.

Oh yeah, I agree with Maggie - if you do go with this dress, keep accessories to a minimum.  Less is more.

  • Don't worry about its "appropriateness" as long as it is a light fabric and (more importantly) you feel comfortable and beautiful in it, that is all that matters!!

Personally I think it is beautiful

  • I think you look beautiful! Just take into consideration that you'll be walking on sand so the train will drag in the sand & get dirty. If that isn't an issue for you, go for it
  • Heck no. That dress is beautiful!

  • That dress looks great on you.  I would do it!  How cares about the venue - it's your wedding day and you should look and wear what you like!
