FMIL trying to decide wedding location

FMIL is for the most part wonderful. She is trying to be really helpful in planning our wedding. We live two hours away from most of our family. We found a great venue that's a little further from our house, so three hours away for most people, but there's accommodations. FMIL and FSIL are trying to change our mind to have the wedding closer to "home" (i.e. them.) We actually would love to but can't afford a nice location as it's much pricier there. They keep telling us we should consider the family. My family lives in a totally different place so I feel that all they are thinking of is themselves. Are we being unreasonable?

    If you and your FI agreed to have the wedding in a different location than his family then tell him to deal with his mom and sister.  It sucks that they want you to change locations, but they'll get over it.

    Unless your FMIL is paying for the wedding, then you and your FI need to make this decision of venue for yourselves, or perhaps with your parents if they are paying. Just stand your ground and explain that the place you booked is the one you like and can afford. Be sure your FI has your back, so he can put his foot down with his mother if need be. Like PP said, they will get over it.

    We went with the theory that if one side had to travel then both sides had to travel.  That's why we got married in Philadelphia instead of my hometown of Cincinnati or his hometown of San Francisco.

    Also, remember that this is your FI's problem to deal with because it is his side of the family.
