How much would you charge to clean......

a 450 square foot apartment? FBIL and FSIL moved out and want their deposit back. I am told it is fairly clean right now. The last time I was there, it was filthy. They had dog hair everywhere, etc. Maybe tell me what you would charge if it was as clean as they say and what you would charge if it was dirtier? I am thinking a flat fee would be best. What do you think? I am a fairly quick cleaner, but my asthma is going to be hell at their place.

I have never been paid to clean nor have I hired anyone. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: How much would you charge to clean......

  • My parents used to have a cleaning lady but no clue what they paid. FI were talking about this last night. Could you see what cleaning services in your area charge?
  • Honestly, I'd tell them I had to check the place out before I could give them a quote.  What are you leaning toward?  Do you do this often?  What do you usually charge?  I guess I'd prefer to hear what YOU think is a fair price before I decided if it was reasonable; I know "cleaning ladies" in our area start around $60/hour for two rooms and vacuuming (we get ads all the time) with "add ons" to their packages.

Also, you can generally find surgeon's masks for really cheap at drug stores, or even see if you can get one or two for free at your doctor's office, if you explain why.  That might help with your asthma, and would definitely make your own experience a lot nicer, even if the place is gross!

  • My aunt charges $15 an hour if it is a light job, $20 an hour if it is more difficult, $25 an hour if it is downright gross & filthy.

I would for sure check it out first, then charge per hour. I think it depends on where you live for what you should charge. Around here it is about $20/hour.

  • We hired people to clean our house before we moved in, the precioud owners had cats and I also have asthma, they charged us $32.50 an hour. Good luck!
  • I agree with PP, I'd definitely look at the place first and see how gross it is.  If it's not that bad I'd do $10-15 per hour.  If it's gross I'd do up to $30 or so.

  • I guess they don't need a deep clean. They found someone to sub let it until their lease is up so they just need it cleaned regular. I decided to do it for $50. I just need to dust, clean the kitchen and bathroom and vacuum. It should only take me an hour or so.

If I had to do a complete deep clean I think I would have charged $80-$100. I was told that the cleaning services would be at least $120.
