Narrowing down Venue options

My FI and I are trying to plan our wedding which will be in western PA from North Carolina. FI can only concentrate on price so let's just say he hasn't been the most helpful in picking out a venue! haha. In all honesty he doesn't care where, just as long as it's not a huge cost.

We're making a trip back to PA in March I believe so I was trying to narrow sites down so that we know where we want to actually go visit and hopefully pick a place! After creating my spreadsheet and comparing place after place - there are 2 that are really sticking out to me -

1. Four Points Sheraton in Cranberry. I looove that SO many things are included in their price. It would save a lot of headache trying to find different vendors from out of town since they include a lot (centerpieces, cake, etc.) I've heard some really good things about the place and Phillip. The only big thing is trying to find a ceremony site. We haven't decided if we want a church (I'm not sure how to go about finding a church nearby) or try to find a ceremony + reception site. Has anyone had their ceremony at the hotel as well? How was it?

2. Cranberry Highlands Golf Course. I'm having a hard time finding opinions on this place. I think it looks really pretty here and like the idea of the ceremony being there as well. I heard good and bad about the food. The brochure says they have centerpieces but it sounds like candles and greenery (???) so I may have to look for some other deco. Also, cake not included. But for some reason I can't stop thinking about this place. Did anyone have their wedding here? How was it? I'd love some reviews on this place!

I'd love some info/reviews on either place and maybe which you think is better! I definitely want to check both of them out in person but wanted a little info from brides (not what the place is going to try and sell/sweet talk me)

Thanks!

Re: Narrowing down Venue options

  • I planned my friends baby shower at the Four Points in Cranberry. It went really well. The food was good, the room was set up nice and exactly how I requested. Everyone LOVED the dessert selections they provided with our lunch buffet too. And the lobby area of the hotel is offers a gorgeous atmosphere.
  • I haven't been to weddings there or looked into those places, but I am also an OOT bride and I would definitely recommend choosing whichever one seems like it will be easiest on you from  a planning aspect. LIke you said, if it includes all of the food, bar, linens, etc. that is your best bet as an out of towner. Also keep in mind how easily you are able to get in touch with the coordinator at the locations, because if they don't call you back or email, it can be SO frustrating... we're dealing with that at our venue.

  • Thanks for the replies!

@Caitlynmk - good points! Didn't really think about vendors being hard to get in touch with!

and @offbeat9 - I keep hearing good things about Four Points! I guess I just keep thinking about the wedding I attended there - it was a NYE wedding - so I just keep picturing this darker room and wonder if it will be "too dark" for a spring wedding - silly I know!

Thanks for the help ladies :)
  • @hannahj0 - I get what you mean, our baby shower was in a small portion of the big room, sectioned off using those wall dividers. There were no windows so no natural light/a bit closed in. I think indoor globe lights/lanterns or a DJ with the right lighting equipment could brighten it up though. Good luck!
  • Cranberry Highlands Golf Course would be beautiful in the spring with the great landscaping and plentiful windows in the room.  I had a coworker get married in the pavillion and the reception in the banquet room.  Food was very good--I think they have a caterer.  I looked into this venue for a bridal shower, and was very impressed with Brenda the banquet coordinator.  I would strongly consider a visit.
  • Thanks @steff308! I was hoping someone had good praises about cranberry highlands!
