One of my brides (we are photogs) rented a house in Duck to have her wedding & it was beautiful. She rented it in off-season (April) so it was reasonable. Then she had her reception at the Outerbanks Brewing Station, it was REALLY neat. Jill was from Maryland so it was a destination wedding for her as well. She said that renting a house was the most cost-efficient and almost one of the only ways to get the beach wedding.

Also I would HIGHLY suggest a wedding planner. It made our wedding super super easy and we didn't have to worry about anything at all.

Here is the wedding if you want to see it & what she said about planning it: http://traveltoido.com/2011/destination-wedding-north-carolina-by-meet-the-burks/

    Congrats on your engagement!
There's actually an OBX - NC board on TK.

I would check that board out as they may be able to help a bit more :)

As far as the wedding planner goes, it probably would be smoother as the planner would be local. However, if you're really organized and good about being on top of details and contracts, you'd probably be fine. Many people do it just fine without planners. It's all in personal preference.

Hi! I am from Ohio and getting married there next year too! I am also already freaking out lol. We just got engaged Aug 19. We found this amazing house in Topsail Island! It's in the southen OBX. I found it in Treasure Reality. You can get married in most of their houses too. We're getting amrried and having a reception. I found a caterer who seems great too and is very reasonable! If you need his name let me know. I need to find a photographer now. I don;t want cheap pics but I don't want to spend $2500.00 either! It seems to be the norm here. Have you looked into that yet?

If you don't have your heart completely set on the Outer Banks proper, I'd try for the beaches along the southern NC coast near Wilmington.  They're just as pretty and much cheaper, or so my FI and I found when we started our planning last year.

    Happy planning ladies!

i planned my wedding in the obx as well but live in DC, i originally didn't think i needed a planner but with not being local it was the best decision i made.  i used beth pallett from engaging events and was very happy.  good luck with everything!
