Happy Hump Day!

I love Monday holidays, because they really make the week fly by! So last night I had a wine and cheese for work, and I didn't drink because I gave up alcohol for Lent, as you may recall. Well, I'm pretty sure everyone thinks I'm pregnant. Now tonight I have a work happy hour, where I will again not drink, and it will only solidify the rumors. Fun stuff, huh?

How's everyone doing on this fine morning?

It's still REALLY cold here today

It's supposed to "warm up" by the weekend, meaning mid to high twenties. There's supposed to be some snow on Friday too, but I hope it's nothing too serious since I'll be driving to Minneapolis that day.

I can totally see how your co-workers would suspect you're pregnant if you aren't drinking, it seems like that's everyone's first thought anytime a female declines drinking. At least around my office, I swear anytime we go out for drinks after work or something, if one of the girls that works here decides not to go, at least one person always asks "is she pregnant?"

Ha, that's funny, Resa. It's LENT... I'm not pregnant! I gave up soda, not alcohol, so I guess that wouldn't produce any pregnancy rumors.

I'm working as a substitute, and I didn't get a job for today, so I have the day off. I'm really happy on one hand because I have a lot of stuff I need to get done around the house, plus I'm going to drive to FI's work to take him out to lunch for his birthday. On the other hand, I'm going out of town Thurs-Fri, Monday was a holiday, and I only worked a half-day yesterday, so I only made $40 this week.

I hate my job, but I need the money!

Then tomorrow FI and I are going to Austin for one night. We took a day trip there before, but now we get to be there two days, so we're very excited. It's nice to have little mini vacays (which we don't do often).

Man, that's cold! Around here the weather can't seem to decide what to do. We'll have random snow showers one day, and then it's sunny 60s the next. It's been a weird winter.

I really want to get to confession this week/weekend. I always wait until the last minute to go in lent, and I wanted to be different this year. It just seems like I'm always busy during the local confession times, but I guess that means I just need to make a real point of going, instead of thinking about it day-of, you know?

We're having pretty common midwest/south weather, which means yesterday was sunny and gorgeous, and today it is snowing. It's not cold enough to freeze, so we just get pretty snow and crazed kids who are hoping they'll cancel school.

No big plans for today. DH is hoping to be able to get off work at noon, so he should make it home before I do. My parents won't be gettng in until pretty late, but I'm still so excited they'll be here.

Monkey, I hated subbing, and I only did it the year I finished student teaching. I wish we had better subs where I teach now, though. I have so many who won't leave notes, and then the kids tell me stories about how awful they were.

Subbing has made me SERIOUSLY question my call to teaching. Which I guess is irrational since I know it's so different when you get your own classroom... but man. I've been driven almost to tears by a couple classes. And I always try really hard as a sub.

<div>I think it's ridiculous the way kids treat subs. In Plano, I always had pretty decent ones, so the kids were usually good. I just hate having to have conversations that go, "Well, she told me to do ____________, and you are always okay with ______________, so I went off on her." Uh, no, that's never okay. Grow up.</div>

Monkey, I think kids are often really hard on subs on purpose. That's how it always was when I was in school. I'm sure you'll have an easier time in terms of discipline and such when it's your own class.

I'm avoiding going outside this morning :-) It looks lovely and sunny out from my desk... but it was -8 this morning at the bus stop and was not terribly pleasant. I'm dreading the short walk from our office building to the skyway for a client meeting this afternoon. It's staying a lot lighter out later, though, so I just keep telling myself that spring is coming!

In other news... hubs and I are starting the mortgage preapproval process! We're probably getting a townhome rather than a house at this point, but that will still mean having a GARAGE

We're only getting approved on my income... so I'm not really sure what that will mean for what we can afford (probably a shoebox!). Luckily, the suburbs around Minneapolis are pretty affordable for townhomes right now... Any advice/reassurance from any of you ladies who are seasoned homeowners?

Congrats Newly! That's so exciting! I am not a homeowner, but I work in lending, so I can give advice on that...just be patient, and give them what they ask for when they ask for it. People try to fight us on loan conditions all the time, but honestly, so much of it is regulated by the government now that it's not up to us. Borrowers who are responsive and patient are greatly appreciated!

if you are going for a townhouse/condo, ask to see the financials for the condo association - if they are in massive debt or have very little in reserves, that's a bad sign as it could mean big assessments down the road for you.

I'm not a fan of condo complexes--- its nice not to have to do the outdoor upkeep, but the monthly fees are almost like rent, and they can keep going up. They don't resell that much higher either. (not that much is reselling higher today anyway)

Thanks, ladies! Luckily my father-in-law is a realtor and promised us that he'd make sure we get into a good association. We're not quite to real house land yet since my husband is still technically in school right now and has a lot on his plate... so townhome it is! A condo would be too much like being in an apartment still.
