Poppin' Caps?

I was outside walking the pups and a little kid came up to me and yelled "I didn't get the candy I wanted for Halloween and now I'm going to start poppin' caps!" Really 7 year old? Poppin' caps? What is this world coming to.

Re: Poppin' Caps?

  • I started off by letting the kids each pick their one piece out of the bowl until a little girl angrily snatched a second piece when I said to take one. I said it again sternly and she gave me death glare and irately threw it back in the bowl. Seriously, she was like seven. Kids these days, I tell ya.

[QUOTE]Yep. One reason why our lights are out right now. It's free candy. STFU and say thank you. Or, you know, get the eff off our property.

I must have lucked out this year.  I've never had such polite little ones visit on Halloween.  It was a treat for me.

Also, little girl dressed as Ralphie from A Christmas Story in the pink bunny suit... totally made my night.

My son was taught manners, when we were trick-or-treating he was taught to be polite and take what was given with a thank you!

What we are discussing here is the general lack of parents not teaching kids life lessons and how to be polite in society. Poppin Caps and complaining is no way to behave, and not what I call kids having fun.

Agree with this. A kid saying he is going to start "poppin' caps" beacuse he didn't get the candy he wanted is not a kid having fun-it's a kid having a temper tantrum. My parents would've taken my candy away.

  • I'm a mom too and yes I discipline my child and her manners are beyond her age or so i'm told by everyone else but still kids complain kids say the darnest thing its an old fact everyone knows it (i mean come on there was a tv show all about it)  chances are that kid heard it somewhere else and doesnt even know what it means.  Talk about rude you girls are rude and bullies how do you expect your children/children to be to grow up nice people when all you do is sit here and  complain and cyber bully people.  And not handing out candy because kids are rude is ruining it for the kids that are pollite.  So keep that in mind

  • Maybe he meant he would be poppin'  kneecaps ;)

As children we had something called "caps".  You flicked them with your fingernail and they would have this little "pop" sound.  Wasn't aware they were still around from the dinosaur age (if that's what they are).
  • Wow.  Lack of parenting.  We always stress that our DD says thank you and appreciates what is offered.  One of the houses even told her to take more and she replied, "No thank you, I want there to be some for the other kids."
The lady then laughed and said, "I was trying to run out of candy faster so I can go into hiding!" :)
Point is, little a-holes, make big a-holes.  I don't believe in the whole, "kids say the darndest things" applies to "poppin' caps or being rude.

It applies when a 3 year old asks her mom if some cows have real people heads and arms because she sees a very large lady in a cowprint moomoo (sp?) next to us in the grocery store line (yeah, my kid did this...very loudly).  That applies.  Honest, innocent questions not meant to offend.  Not statements that are directed blatantly to be rude.

Wow, arent you sensitive. My son is 22 years old and still has manners.

I'm quite sure no one here held candy back because a kid made this comment. What I find rude is parents allowing their children to act like the Honey Boo Boo's of the world.

If you think this thread is rude, you should find another board.

I completely agree. Honey Boo Boo is a disaster :(

Children now are rude, entitled, little snots sometimes. No, not always, but sometimes.
I don't think it's bullying to think children should be taught manners. Manners should be learned at a young age because they don't magically grow/develop/appear later on.

In regards to this I think when a child acts rude its the perfect chance for a parent to take the time to tell them what they are doing is wrong.

Case in point our Halloween event at work, we had over 1000 kids here. The majority of parents made their children say Thank you, but numerous times the parents were just as rude. My husband watched a father push his daughter ahead in a line that stretched for several feet. Not good parenting.
