Bridal Extravaganza

WJBR is holding whats seems to sound like a very big bridal expo on January 17th from 11-4 at Clayton Hall in Newark. I am thinking of attending and I was wondering if anyone else was.

I registered today.  There are a gazillion  shows in January and February.

Has any one ever gone to this show and have comments?

I went last year and it was pretty good in terms of local vendors and food tastings!  Throughout the course of my wedding planning this was the second best!

I will be there to get the free doubletree cookies...is that bad?

I went last year; between this one and the one Delaware Today does down at Embassy Suites Newark, I think they are the two best ones.  Both have tons of local vendors, and if you don't have any ideas where to start, these are the places to do it.

I just signed up, too!  I'm curious, though - is this one to drag him to...or come alone?  We also just signed up for the one @ Harry's Savoy on Jan 31st.  I heard really good things from a co-worker about that one.

I signed up to attend because one of the bakeries we are considering does their tastings through at the expo so and FI is coming with.

I went to the WJBR one twice (about 7 years ago with my friend, and last year for my wedding).  It is outstanding!  they have so many vendors, free food, they give you flowers, lots of cake, so much stuff!  lots of giveaways, a fashion show with giveaways.  i wish i could go again.  i went by myself because one of my BM's overslept, but it was actually better that way.  Some people bring everyone and it is just too much. A lot of people go to this one so it will be very crowded.

Thanks for the info Lura. I want to go for ideas and the give-aways not to mention I've never done an expo before. It's not like I need vendors. Now I'm wondering...should I bring FH to this?

Honestly, for anyone considering bringing your FI to one of these, my suggestion is don't.  They won't want to be there, it will be way too crowded, they will be bored and won't be of any help.  You will get enough hand outs (or take pictures for ideas) that you can show the ones that matter to FI when you get home.

I took my FI to these for only one reason: I was in a wheelchair at the time, and needed (obvi) someone to push me.  Thank God he went, as some of these brides (more the bridal parties they all bring with them) are so rude.  There were times he had to just push through a crowd because they kept cutting me off, and other times he had to stop pushing in the middle of an aisle, walk to the front of me, and stand on my left side to protect my left leg from hard jostling.  It would take things like this before either event staff or a vendor cleared the way for us to go. That's one of the reasons we only did the two I mentioned; they are so rough, you almost need combat gear (not saying they aren't good for info and vendors, it's the people attending who can get out of hand).  And since this is probably the most popular show in this area, because there is no admission fee, then you need to prepare yourself for it all.

Unless you have a reason like that, leave the guys at home, ladies.  Seriously, it's one of those things he really doesn't want to go to, but won't tell you no.

I went to just one bridal show (at my reception venue) and won't ever attend another for some of the reasons Brit mentioned.  It was just too crowded (why do you need 8 ppl with you at a fair????) and although the staff were very nice, the guests were rude.  I think its just that people are on their own agenda and absorbed in themselves.

There is some free stuff to collect  and a lot of pamphlets and info that will get trashed at home :)  I found it helpful that florists were there with samples/books to look at.  It saved a trip to their store just to see those things.  Some of the DJ/musicians have demo CDs that you can take to listen to their work too.

    Have fun!

Clayton Hall's show is always the best in the area! And watch out for Appleton's area, it's the best part!
  • edited December 2011
Oh yeah!  Appleton's was so good last year.  I wish I had a reason to go to this one.  Brit, if you go, i'll go with you!

I disagree with Brit...my guy had a GREAT time at the bridal show for one simple reason...THE FOOD! LOL.  I think it was a way for him to feel involved in something w/o it being a super girly part of the wedding.  He really enjoyed himself so it depends on what type of guy you're marrying.
