Engagement Ring/ Wedding Band

From what I have been reading, it is tradition to only wear an engagement ring until the actual wedding day. Is this true? I cant wear my wedding band until we are actually hitched?  Do most brides to be still follow this old tradition?

I know that technically, I can if I want to, no one will tell me I can't.
Im stuck on this decision. I want to have a wedding filld with tradition, but my engagement ring looks best with the bands too!

Re: Engagement Ring/ Wedding Band

  • Yes, most people just wear the e-ring until the wedding day. Then you get to add the band!

  • Like you said you can do what you but if you want to be traditional then you don't wear the wedding ring until your FI places it on your finger during the ceremony.  A wedding ring signifies that you are married.

  • I can't imagine why you'd wear your wedding band before the wedding. It's like opening your presents before Christmas...it takes away from the meaning of it. Exchanging rings signifies that you are officially married.
  • I agree with pp. I wore my e-ring on the right hand during the ceremony, when H put the band on my finger, I moved the e-ring over (the band usually goes first, but you can do what you want). Since my rings are not saudered together, I have the option of just wearing my band if I want to without the e-ring, but I will always wear the band. Like pp said, I know a few people who just wear the e-ring after they are married, but you can do whatever you want. I just wouldn't wear the band before you are actually married.
  • Congratulations!  Certainly, you can do as you wish with the bands,  However, traditionally, the bride begins wearing the wedding band at the ceremony. and thereafter. It signifies that she is now married. .

  • you can do what I do and secretly put your wedding band on and gaze longingly at your left hand... but please dont wear it out in public!
