Room Blocks

I was wondering, can you or has anyone blocked out rooms at other hotels?

We're getting married at MB and already have rooms blocked, but some of my guests have talked about booking rooms at Luxor and Excalibur.
And I was wondering if you could block out rooms, even though your not staying there.

Thanks!

Btw, Woohoo ~ new mod, congrats Vegasgroom Cool

    Thanks! :-)

To answer your question, yes, you can typically block rooms anywhere you want for free.  We had a block at MB and Luxor even though we were not doing anything at Luxor.  And MB group booking didn't know anything about what we were doing in Mix so I doubt they require anything special either.

Casually asking around amongst my friends and family though, I found very few actually used the block because the block rate is typically much higher than what you can get if you hunt around online for coupon codes and book at least six weeks or more in advance, so only the people who waited until the last minute ended up using the blocks.  We kept the coupon codes updated on our website so everyone that went there was able to pay less.

Exactly what VG has said. I contacted NYNY and the Tropicana to get room block info and their rates were much higher than I was finding on various discount websites and even different promotions that the hotels themselves were offering.

Also if you sign up for emails from the hotels you will get notified of promotions and "liking" them on facebook gets you different deals as well.

I guess the GN is different.  My block price has been the same or lower than all of the specials that I have had come through email (I'm a "player").  But the best thing about is that the room block was good from January through July.  Most of the specials were good for only a few days.  I don't have the wherewithal to contact everyone on my guest list every time there is a room sale.

I am of the belief, "Set it and forget it."

I don't get married often, but when I do, I do it in Las Vegas.

I think the strip casinos must be different than off-strip because Green Valley Ranch was the same way.  The one time that a special was running that was a little lower than our group block, we contacted them to complain - they ended up waiving the Resort Fee for all of our guests, which still made our rate better.

The PSC30 code for MB was 30% off and worked for about nine months; that was a good one, hopefully a replacement will be discovered soon.  I think they had no choice but to keep that one active even though everyone already knew about it because they had included it in all those printed scratch off coupons they had handed out for a while.

I agree with PP, make sure you check and see if there is a fee to do so though.  One of the big properties on the strip wanted a deposit for all the rooms we wanted to block off, needless to say we didn't do a room block there.  More people used our room block at the Orleans than on the strip.  For the most part folks stayed where they wanted to but all made it to the ceremony and reception.

We were going to try and do a room block through total experience even though we weren't staying at any Caesars properties. It is definitely possible.

We didn't end up doing one b/c the prices were higher than the ones you could find online.

I just wanted to throw out my opinion... I've had very close friends who had horrible experiences at Luxor and Excalibur.  Our wedding is at MB and we're explicitly telling people that we cannot recommend those hotels.  I've done a lot of stalking of tripadvisor.com, and I'm going to do room blocks at Tropicana, MGM, and MB.

Every hotel has their pros and cons, but I was amazed by how many bad reviews there are of Luxor.
