Venue Drama

So Saturday we go to our venue to pay the remaining balance on our wedding which is in 2 weeks. The banquet coordinator (who, btw, was a replacement since the original banquet coordinator decided to leave post a month after we booked) was so disorganized. It has made me so uneasy my entire engagement. After he finally retrieves our file, he starts going over everything and writing things down. He pulls up our account on the computer and tries to overcharge us! Apparently, the old coordinator never included the $250.00 ceremony fee in our original contract, which we signed. He was trying to tell us that it wasn't his fault that it wasn't included..well guess what! It wasn't our fault either, sir and we're not paying for it! Needless to say, my FI started flipping out and cursing. Quite frankly, I'm surprised he didn't turn this guy's desk over. Being that my FI and I are paying for our own wedding, we are down to the last penny with everything. FInally the guy agreed to eat the $250 cost and we paid what we should have paid. I got written documentation that we are paid in full for the day.

My FI is still worried about it..I don't know if I should be or not. He says that I should call the general manager of the hotel to talk about what happened but I don't know if that's going to just stir up the pot. I don't want them to do something to purposely screw up our wedding. Thoughts?

Re: Venue Drama

  • What venue is this? For what it's worth, that new guy is an idiot.
  • I'd call the general manager and let him know. Don't get angry and start yelling - that never helps. Just explain to him your concerns and how you have spent a lot of money with them, and you expect nothing but the best. I've had to do that with our hotel as well and I have a feeling I'll have to make another call to the GM...

  • You could call the GM, but the coordinator may not appreciate you telling the GM what happened, which could do more damage.  If you feel the situation is solved you may want to let it end.  Do you have a maitre d' who runs the show the night of the wedding?  If so, then that's the person you have to get chummy with.

I really think you'll be OK - I had a complete blowup at my coordinator (really, it was bad) and I called back and smoothed things over so that she wouldn't hate me.  She said she is very used to it - and I bet your coordinator is too.

Now, the hotel...that was another story...like Klustig, I had to call the GM.

Hotel people are awful. It's like a circus over there, and we have a crazy amount of guests staying over (upwards of 70) - if I make it through the next 25 days without losing it at the hotel sales manager, it'll be a miracle.

  • I would consider sending an email to the coordinator, cc'ing the GM, basically saying "thank you for resolving our issue and we are looking forward to our wedding".  That way you alert the GM to what went on without throwing the coordinator under the bus (even though it sounds like he deserved it.)  Nothing wrong with a little political maneuvering to ensure that your coordinator is motivated to give you the best possible experience.

Thanks for this! I did exactly that. I BCC'd the general manager so we'll see what happens. Thanks!
