Email Save the Dates?

Have any of you used TheKnot email Save the Date or sent your Save the Dates via email? Do you think it's tacky? To save money, I am considering it and just contacting the not so computer savvy folks (e.g. grandma) via phone. Will it give the wrong impression about my formal, elegant wedding? I do plan to send formal invitations later via mail but wanted to save money on the save the dates. The reason I'm doing Save the Dates is because my entire family is out of town and many of my guests will be coming from out of town so wanted to give them a decent heads up.

I used the save the dates and am happy I did! To my surprise, we actually got complements on the "graphics". Its funny becase I didn't do a thing to edit them - actually don't think you can edit the one provided on the knot, other than by adding your event details. You can easily add hotel accommodations and other info that important for guests to be aware of.

Personally, I liked the look of the STD vs. the email / postcard you can send.

I am sure you can put the money you save into something else you really want! Its all about prioritizing

I sent emails, but I didn't try at all to make them formal. It was more just "Hey, wanted to let you know we got hotel blocks, and share our website. Hope you can make it!"

I just used 8.5x11 cardstock and sectioned it into fourths (half vertical, half horizontal).

The first part was the actual announcement (that picture is in my bio). The next was How to Get Here (airport and car rental info), then Where to Stay (listing both hotels and info to get reduced rates for room) and the last one was More Information (our web address, and "We look forward to celebrating with you" and our names at the bottom.

I printed them out and then cut them down the center and across the center to make four cards. I stacked them in the order above.

Using a crop-o-dile (a very awesome scrapbooking tool), I punched a hole in the upper corner of the four cards and set a red eyelet in the hole. I bought red A2 envelopes at Staples (A2 is basically a quarter of a letter sized sheet).

It didn't take very long at all. You can use Word, Publisher, InDesign if you have it, Powerpoint, etc.

I wouldn't use the e-STD on the knot, but I would make a website and personally send an email (you can BCC so you don't do it 200 times) to everyone on your list with a link to the website and announcing the date.
