Excitement of Early Shower/Wedding Gifts!!

So, I've pretty much been stalking my registries for the past few weeks. I noticed a few things have been purchased & squeal with delight each time.

I came home the other day and two HUGE boxes from BBB were in my living room! My mom literally had to hold me back from clawing away at the boxes! She wrote a huge sign on it saying 'do not open these 2 boxes.' Of course, I didn't see that until after I opened one...oops! I know what it is, I can see it off my registry, but my mom doesn't know that...hehe. So, just to appease her, I will wait to open them at my shower.

But the anticipation is killing me!!! So, has anyone else received early gifts that they were forbidden from opening? Do you know what it is??

Re: Excitement of Early Shower/Wedding Gifts!!

  • That is exciting!  Nothing since Christmas gifts here.  I'm probably not having a shower so I don't think I'll start seeing anything more until after invitations go out, but that will be soon now :-)
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.

I checked our registries a few days ago and still nothing as of yet, but my grandma assures me it's still a little early, especially since we haven't sent wedding invitations yet and because we are having such a "late" shower (April 1, wedding is April 21). I'm not sure when my aunt/BM and MOH are sending those invitations.

I'm sure I will jump for joy when I see the first purchase though!

  • That is very exciting.  My shower isn't until March, so I don't expect things to be coming off the registry yet.
  • Since we don't celebrate Christmas, receiving gifts is like a huge deal! I know that my shower is soon because a few have accidentally told me they received an invite...plus my mom asked for the little registry insert things.

It's going to feel so weird sitting there on the day of the shower. Everyone will be there for me! EEEK!
  • I got 2 things for Christmas, and our gifts are being shipped to FI's place so I wont be tempted to open them.  But he accidentally opened the first package and it was our KA Mixer!

My shower is in 2 weeks and I can't wait to see my friends/fam and see what they got for us.
  • I have gotten a few things, it is so exciting. My shower is tomorrow and I can't wait!!! I have tried to stay away from the registries though hahaha!!! But can't wait!!!

  • How come all you ladies know the date of your shower!?! My mom & BM have been trying so hard to keep it a secret. I'm pretty sure I know when it is, but I won't tell them that...

<div>that's weird that they're keeping it from you.  I sat down with my BM's and we picked a date.  It would be cute to be surprised with a shower, but I would want to make sure I looked presentable, and picture ready.</div><div>

My MOH's are throwing a surprise showe so I dont know the date and I try to find out about it all the time...lol...but they wont tell me. I also "stalk" my registry list and nothing bought yet which makes me sad but my sister/MOH keeps telling me its early.
  • My girlfriends started planning my shower the day after I told them I was getting married. lol.  But I made them tell me the date because my aunt wants to throw a shower (and, now my FI's aunt wants to also.  Is there such a thing as too many showers?  I don't think hers will happen, but it's sweet of her to say it), and I wanted to make sure they didn't pick the same date.

I know that one gift has been purchased off our registry, but I haven't received it yet.  Exciting!!!  But, my first shower isn't until March 11th, so I have some time to wait (and stalk my registry).  FI made me promise him that we will not open any gifts shipped to our house.

Well, I don't think it's weird. Around here, showers are usually a surprise. Thing is, I have an extremely busy schedule, so the only way they could do it is if they coordinate a date with me. My mom said, 'let me know which of these 3 days you're available to go out to lunch with your father & I.' Hmm, considering I've never scheduled a lunch date with them, it's usually spontaneous, I'm taking the hint. <div>
</div><div>She knows I bought a dress for my shower, so she'll probably bring it there for me to change. That's what's happened at pretty much every other shower.</div>
  • Lots of my friends have surprise showers.  I dont think its weird.

But I live in Boston and the shower is in my hometown near Philly, so if they dont tell me when it is, I can't travel home.

My shower is a surprise too! I'm pretty sure it's not going to be until March, but other than that I'm not too certain. My sister accidentally let slip where it's going to be though lol. I tried to get my mom to tell me the date, but she's remaining very tight-lipped about the whole thing. I told her that I want to be able to dress for the occasion (I don't want to show up to my surprise shower in a T-shirt!)...I figured I'll pick out what I want to wear, and on every Saturday/Sunday that my mom wants me to go someplace with her from end of this month until March, I'll just have to dress up just in case. ;)
...and it was our KA Mixer! Posted by mdphd
FI got me one for Christmas this last year. You will love it!

I also had not looked at any registry stuff until today. Nothing is bought from it yet. A friend is throwing us a wedding shower on Feb 25 for all our Dallas people (mostly friends and co-workers that are invited), and my sister MOH and aunt are throwing one in my hometown the week after on Mar 3. That one will be for family that are around there.

It will be weird to get things and be the reason for the "party". I still am embarrassed when it's my birthday and I have stuff just for me.

  • that's so funny. I had my shower last month and a month before the shower I received some boxes from crate and barrel.  My FMIL actually had sent the gifts to our home instead of hers.  The problem was that we had to open the boxes to figure out who had sent us the gifts so we knew ahead of time what we were getting.  We had to call her to let her know that we had received her gift and she was like omg I thought i had sent it to my house...im so sorry...I really wanted to wrap it up and give it to you at the shower.  So we had to drop off the boxes at her house and then I had to act surprised at the shower which I thought was pretty funny.
