Newbie and Question

Hello,

I am a newbie to the board! I am getting married June 25, 2011.
I have a question.
So I am doing a meal choice, and a seating chart of assigned tables only, not seats, instead of escort cards. How can I let the wait staff know who ordered chicken and who ordered beef at each table? I would say the color ribbon on their napkin where they are sitting at or something, but they don't have assigned seats? Any nice ideas?
Thanks

    This wouldn't work then.

The only way is to have the wait staff go around and ask everyone.  I would do colored escort cards instead of a seating chart.  The only wedding I've been to that had a seating chart and the food brought out without orders being taken was when each table was served family style.

Someone mentioned earlier on this board that some caterers are ok just being told in advance that table 5 ordered 3 chicken, 2 beef, and 3 veggie, and then they will go around and ask each person, but they'll bring the right amount over to each table.  Check with your caterer to see if this would be ok.

My SIL did colored escort cards. It is easier for them to see.

I would ask your caterer if knowing a count for the table would be fine.  If not, I'd suggest doing escort cards that are colored or otherwise indicate meal choice.

We are doing escorts cards with 3 versions of our monogram. The colors will dictact the meal. Once the guest gets their card and table, they can pick their seat and put their card down. We originally wanted to just do the map style seating chart but our venue requires some type of coded place card.

Most weddings I've been to have had assigned tables, but never assigned seating.  Regardless, our meal choices have been shown on our place cards--either the cards were different colors or there was a little rhinestone or ribbon on the card to indicate meal choice.  At one wedding, our choice was just written underneath our name and table number, but the wait staff still came around to each of us to ask what we had selected.

What does your venue suggest you do to specify meal choices to meat staff?  I know that our venue requires place cards to show designated meals if a choice is offered.  Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!
