Job question

I applied to a couple places two days ago. I heard back from one of them and the email said that it will take "several days" for them to look over applicants and they would get back to me if they were interested. I am serious about getting a new job very soon and I am not above applying at fast food places.

When should I apply at McDonalds and such? The Taco Bell a mile from my house is hiring also. I don't want to apply there and accept a position and then have a better job offer come available...... Help!

Re: Job question

  • I would apply ASAP. You have to think about yourself and no wait around for companies.

I agree.  I've had places wait up to three months before calling me for interviews.  Definitely just do what you think is best for you.

  • Apply everywhere. You normally have a 30 day grace period to quit at most places, and you can technically quit whenever you want.

Not to mention, places like McDonalds are quite familiar with very high, very fast turnover rates of employees, so if you were to get a job there and hear back from elsewhere in just a few weeks, it really wouldn't be something they considered unusual.

  • I would apply everywhere whenever you are able to get over there.

I have been applying to places like mad and have gotten to the point where I really want someone NOW because I am sick of waiting and want to bring in money and get settled in (we moved here in Nov).

I haven't heard back from anywhere except the place I applied to last Thursday (forever 21 for asst manager).  The store manager got back to me the next day and I have already gotten the phone interview from the DM.

If they are really in need of someone now they will get back to you in a timely manner.  I think the problem that I am incurring is I was looking at hotels and it is their off season so they don't need someone right away.

    Best of luck!!

  • Employment laws are different in every state.  My best friend lives in Montana - I can try to ask her if you don't know the ones there.

In TX it is employment at will - which means that I can accept a job somewhere, start, and then quit 3 days later if I want.  On the flip side, it also means that they can fire me 3 days later.
  • places like mcd's expect a high turnover quickly. Apply there and leave without a second thought.
  • I was applying at places such as Staples when I was unemployed and part of the problem I was finding was they were deeming me overqualified and they felt I would leave if something better came along.
  • The law here is 90 days. You can leave within that time frame and they can fire you for no reason, also.

I would hate to waste anyones time by leaving so quickly. I live in a fairly small town so I don't want to burn bridges. Plus, it is in my neighborhood....

I totally get the fact that I shouldn't wait around though. I hate this!!!!
