Sappy Invitation Wording Regret

I ordered my invitations really early (we won't be sending them out for a couple more months) and I must have been feeling exceptionally sappy that day, because when I look at them now, I'm regretting the wording we used.

I don't have one in front of me at the moment, so I can't tell you exactly what they say, but it's something like "we invite you to share in the joy as we begin a lifetime of love." There's also a sappy poem in the corner. One or the other of them might have been okay (the poem is kind of nice), but I'm really regretting the combination of the poem with "lifetime of love."

We're pushing 50, for crying out loud, and "lifetime of love" could be considered a bit over the top. Fiance likes them and doesn't want to spend the money on replacements, but I just know some of my friends are going to be gagging over these. I don't know what I was thinking.

So, words of encouragement to keep them or support for spending a bit more and getting that line removed? What do you ladies think?

Oh, just send them anyway.  You and your friends can giggle about the over-the-top sappiness together!
  • Send em!  Weddings are for sappiness!

    My invites say:

As Autumn colors turn their brilliant hues
we join our lives together as we say I do

    Coralee & Monty

request the honor of your presence as they begin a lifetime of love

So see - mine are sappy too!
  • I agree with everyone. Sappy is good for a wedding invitation!

I really worked hard on my invitations and while I don't "regret" it, I do think it was not necessary. My FH owns his own wholesale greenhouse. So we did a pressed flower invitation with lavander and other flowers. I had the pressed paper in lavander epson salts for a few days so they smelled like lavander.

I got at least 20 emails saying they could smell it and one wife of FH's friends still keep sthe invitation in the envelope to keep the smell...but, overall, its an invitation not a legal document that is inforce forever!

Since being in my 40's I tend to "get real" more often!
  • Thanks everyone! Your words of encouragement are most helpful (and cost saving). I'm sending them!

  • Seriously - I can't remember what any one of my friend's or family members' invitations said...it matters more to you than anyone else. Save that money for something else you'll enjoy.
