Happy Saturday!

Morning ladies!

I have to work our event today, so I'll be leaving soon and most likely wont be back till 10:30 tonight.

I see B stopped by yesterday, so nice to see a 87 post morning thread! I wish I could have been here, but work is crazy!

Have a good day ladies.

Re: Happy Saturday!

  • Today I am rearranging the furniture to make room for the Christmas trees.  What a pain.  I'm gonna end up cleaning all day.  Thank goodness I like the holidays huh?

We'll be going to the market today and I'm excited.  Tons of vendors are going to be there with samples of GF holiday foods.

Already? I try to put the tree up the week before and take it down the day after. We have no room and now the dog crate is in the only corner we used to use. I may have to put it in H's office this year. Good thing its just a palm tree and doesnt take up as much room as a real tree.

<div>Already?  Thanksgiving is this week.  Plus, why would I want to do all that work and then leave it up for only a week?  I'm too lazy for that.</div>

I'm not lazy when it comes to trees cluttering my living space! ;)

  • Not putting up a tree this year because we're going to Hawaii!
It will be the first Christmas I haven't spent in my parent's house, so even though I'm excited for the trip, I'm a little sad too.  Is that normal?

<div>In my world, totally normal  ;)</div><div>

  • It's normal to be sad, but think of it as a new chapter!

The best Christmas I've had to date was the one where I surprised the kids with a trip to Disney. They didn't know I was taking them until we were on the way to the airport.

I'm not a fan of the holidays, but am trying to psych myself up for some new beginnings. It will be our first Christmas in our new home, and DS is coming up too, so we'll all be together. I'm hoping for the beginning of some wonderful new traditions, and a Christmas that I won't hate.

  • Yay for new traditions and thanks for the reassurances!   And my parents, bro and his GF, and FI will all be there, so it won't be too strange.  And we're going to swim with dolphins on the trip, so no matter what it will be an AMAZING trip!

And Jennylee, I hope your Christmas is fantastic!  Decorating a new home for Christmas is always a stressful kind of fun (at least for us it was) but I'm sure you can have a holiday season you love.
What are the things that have made you hate Christmases past?  Can you straight up not do them?  And, I love that you took your kids to Disney as a surprise, that sounds so fun!
  • Yeah, our holidays are sort of changing, too. But it's good stuff! This is our first married Christmas, and my brother got married last year, and we have started a tradition (since there are no grandkids) that we ALL stay Christmas Eve night and Santa comes to visit all of us. Once we have kids that will change, but now we still get to be the 'kids'. On H's side though, I have an 18 year old nephew, so we don't do gifts... just wine and good food.
  • Anna, I'm so jealous!! I'm GF too and samples are key! You get a much better selection in the US, our labelling laws are super strict. Enjoy! I just finished a super deep vacuum prepping for putting up the tree tonight while drinking wine and watching Love Actually! Love the holidays!

<div>It was amazing!  I had GF stuffing, herbed potatoes, Rice Dream spiced nog, curried fruit (SO good), spice cake, and got to try the Udi's dinner rolls and they tasted just like real bread.  plus, they had take-home samples of new products so I have a bag full of single servings.  Everything from rice pastas, to cookies, to supplements.  All GF.</div>
  • Oh Anna, so jealous! Being GF is new to me. That sounds like 'research heaven' to me.

dtb, I've just honestly never had a good Christmas. My parents are still together but can't stand each other, so life at home has always been strained. When I got married, my ex's family didn't think I was good enough for him (whole book I could write there, not just a story - lol), so the holidays were tortrous. Stress isn't the word. Once we got divorced, I ended up in a relationship with someone who, on Dec 23rd one year, told me how fat, lazy and useless I was, then took off for eight days. He came back like nothing happened, but I soon fixed him! It wasn't the first time he'd pulled something like that, but it was the last. It took me the better part of a year to get rid of him for good, but I did it!

Then there was the Christmas Eve I spent in the Emergency Room. I drove myself, but my fever was so high, I still don't remember doing it ...

Last Christmas was FIs and my first one together, but we weren't exactly together; we drove for two days, then I flew with DD so she could spend the holidays with her dad and brother. FI joined us on Boxing Day, but I spend Christmas Eve wandering the drug store, because it was the only place open and I didn't want to listen to my parents argue about jello colours any more...

    Phew! Sorry you asked? lol

It's just been a time that's been more stress (and not the good stress you mentioned) than joy. I'd really like for that to change.

And I'd also totally do Disney again for the holidays too! It's very magical and made me un-Scrooge for a while!

  • Jenny, that sucks. Hopefully this year you can create new traditions and have a nice family Christmas at home.

  • Aaaw, Jenny, I'm so sorry.
It sounds like you took positive steps to get yourself into a better place though, and that is definitely something to be proud of!  I hope this Christmas is fun and happy and that your family enjoys together time!
