HCG Diet question

Has anyone tried this? I am curious how many calories they have you eat. I am skeptical about how healthy/safe it is, but I also would love to drop my weight fast.

Re: HCG Diet question

  • The HCG is completely unsafe you really shouldn't try it.

  • It's something like 500 calories a day. Completely unsafe and ridiculous.

  • I've tried it under doctor supervision and I lost 30 pounds in six weeks. They had me on a meal plan, eating 800 calories a day and having 6 meals a day. I was also on an exercise plan. Unhealthy? perhaps, but my eating habits were worse.  I know that it works and is fast.

  • The only things you can drink are black coffee and water....500 calories a day! They also have apple days where you literally can only eat apples

<div>Slower is healthier and easier to maintain. Think about it: if it took you 3 weeks to lose the weight, it would take that or less to easily gain it all right back. If you do it gradually (.5-2pounds a week, maybe more at first), then your body can adjust naturally and one bad week won't set you back nearly as much. </div>

The HCG diet is unsafe, whether you are "under doctor supervision" or not.  It is almost impossible for your body to get all of the vitamins, minerals, and macronutrients that it needs on a mere 500 calories a day.  We are a society that loves instant gratification, but you didn't gain all your weight in a month and your body certainly can't lose it all in a month naturally.  Anytime you try to override your body's natural biochemistry and homeostasis by introducing excessive amounts of hormones that it does not need, you're asking for a lot of trouble.

And to the PP who did this under Dr. supervision, you justify this unhealthy diet stating that your previous eating habits were worse.  So wait, you're replacing one really bad thing with another and this is progress?  From someone who starved herself on 500 calories a day before, I will remind you that it completely ruins your metabolism and screws up everything about the way your body operates.  If you're lucky, when you start eating the amount of food you need to and begin fueling your body properly again, your metabolism will readjust itself and kick back in the way it used to.  Many people are not that lucky.  Do the smart thing -- do the hard work, eat healthy, exercise, and fuel your body so it can run at maximum potential.

  • Want to know another name for the HCG diet?  Anorexia.  Because that's what it's normally called when you only eat 500 calories a day.

  • WOW..500 cal a day!?!? I struggle keeping it at 1200...though now that I've been doing it for a month it is getting easier.  I knew that there would be a catch to that diet.  drats.

  • There's generally a catch to anything called a diet.

I did medical weight loss a couple of years ago, they had me on a 700 calorie a day diet and because doctors "prescribed" it, I assumed It would be healthy and fine.

I lost 90 lbs eating 7 "meals" a day of 100 calorie protein shakes/supplements and it was disgusting. The minute I started eating real food again I gained a ton of the weight back. It was a waste of my time and energy and as an added bonus, not getting enough nutrients thinned my hair.

Do not do this crap to your body, it may take time to do it the right way but it will have more of a lasting effect and be waaay healthier.

  • Dont do it im telling Ive tried everything! All u are really doing is not eating!! Im doing meal replacements with proteing shakes! I got them through body by vi! A friend of mine sells them and they have been working amazing!!! you all need to check them out! I promise u wont be dissapointed! ericv.bodybyvi.com u all will love it!
  • I'm way late to this...but please don't eat only 500 calories a day, "under doctor supervision" or not.  That's probably about what I was eating when I was anorexic.  Yeah, I lost weight quickly, but I also screwed up my body badly.  Not just my metabolism, but my period/reproductive system as well.  That was 7 years ago, and my gyn told me that it is likely the reason my cycles/fertility are fucked up still (I'm on day 102 right now, and my last period was a result of Provera...I haven't had a "natural" cycle since June). So yeah. Horrible idea.

  • Do not do it. I saw this HCG thing at one of the bridal shows I went to. It seemed like a great idea but all it is,is starving yourself. Of course your going to lose weight if you starve yourself. There are so many other safer ways of doing it. I keep track of myself through sparkpeople. Thes best advice I've gotten from the people there is this. It didn't take you a couple days to put that weight on, it will take time for it to come off. Good luck, but please chose something safer.
  • My mother has done the HCG diet and lost 30 lbs in a little over a months time. nothing bad happened to her. I've also started the deit. You have to be strickt with it, every little thing makes a difference. Of course I'm sure it's not good for you, nothing is, but I can say I've never felt any side effects and I did loose 10 lbs after my frist week. You may only be eating 500 calories a day but what they ask you to eat is healthy, friuts veggies and protien, you also take vitamin b12, magnesium and potassium. It's just not recommended to work at extremely hard becuase of the obviuous.
I say go for it if you have the self discipline.
