Veil Question

I am doing an updo for the wedding but have a question with the veil. Would the veil look better above or below the updo? I want to show off my hair, so I'm leaning towards having the veil below my hair...my mom disagrees with me, of course! Any thoughts?

Re: Veil Question

  • I am doing below for that exact reason. As a cosmetologist I have seen it done both ways many times and still prefer under the updo. I've even seen it under a very low updo and it still looks great.

  • If it's under, then you can't cover your face with the veil to walk down the aisle, right? I am having the same dilemma.

  • I used to not be so fond of under, but it's growing on me. I dont plan on wearing it over my face while walking down the aisle, so I will probably go with that. It's coming off after the ceremony and pictures anyway.

  • My only problem with under is that I think sometimes it looks like a tail... : /  But I think if you put it under and fan it out it looks gorgeous :)

  • I'm only wearing my veil for the ceremony so I will probably put it above my hair for that. People will see my hair when I remove it for the rest of the reception. I'm not wearing it over my face at all.

  • under = no blusher over your face, veil falls thinner, doesn't get in your face if it's windy, shows off hair and accessories
over= you can do a blusher, looks really fluffy/waterfall-ish, blows into your face if it's windy, hides hair

    I vote for under.

  • I guess I'm in the minority, but I prefer the look of the veil over the hair. Part of that is because I'm going to walk down the aisle with the blusher over my face. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like wearing it under defeats the purpose of having a veil? That being said, I've seen veils both ways that look great!
  • I am doing mine under.

  • Thanks girls! All great points. I think when I do a hair trial, I'll try it both ways then go from there. Definitely leaning towards under though then I will take the veil off for the reception.
