Need Reassurance!

First let me start off by saying hello...I am new here. My name is Colleen.

Now...I need reassurance. I am a very decisive person so this is out of my norm to need reassurance but after deciding on my centerpieces I have had a couple people start questioning me.

My plan was to place 2 bottles (nothing uniform, various sizes and shapes) paper mached with older newspaper--Iam going for just black and white print on aged newspaper--with some red flowers in them. There will be a skeleton key on ribbon around the neck of the bottles. Also a wine bottle painted with chalkboard paint to use for table numbers.  Then some votive candles around the bottles.

Here are some pictures that I got my inspiration from.

Please help with opinions please!

  • Was the newpaper part of your theme?? Or you just liked that look??  IMO, I like the grouping of 3 black (chalk board) bottles....even with th flowers and votives around those would be pretty.... Just not sure where the newspaper tied in...

  • I really like the chalkboard bottle idea. I'm not such a huge fan of the newspaper one, but I think putting some red flowers in chalkboard bottles with little votives around them would be really cute.

What kind of wedding are you having? Tell us a little more about it. Date? Theme? :)

  • If newspaper isn't a part of things elsewhere, I would stick to chalkboard paint, because newspaper isn't actually black and white, more black and grainy greyish.

Also, I just had an idea you are free to ignore.  For favors/place settings, you could get a bunch of dollar tree wine glasses, and paint the base with chalkboard paint, and write each guests name in chalk. Set it where they are sitting and voilla!!!!
  • The wedding is Nov 10th, 2012. We don't really have a theme, but we both really like antique/vintage items and are both big readers (he is also a writer).  We will be carrying the antique/vintage theme (for lack of a better term) with the skeleton keys and also an old cast iron mailbox as a card box.

We saw the newspaper covered bottles in a window display and really liked them. I have no problem kicking them to the curb though.

  • That is a really great favor idea!! I may have to try and incorporate it with our already planned (and purchased favors).  We will be giving bags of "retro" candy (one items picked from each decade starting with the 50's until today. We have a printed tag to attach to each, one side is a blk/whi photo I took and the other is the following statement, "In Honor of Our Guests We Have Made a Donation to (local community outreach and food pantry)".

Your favor idea sounds so cute!  I love candy in all its forms, haha. Maybe you could buy vintage newspaper and put it under your bottles, that way it woudl still be incorporated, but you would get the clean, pretty lines of the chalk board bottles.
  • Great idea, thank you!

The chalk board paint bottle sound really cute.  I could also see the newspaper covered bottles working, but I think maybe the chalkboard bottles would be easier to incorporate.

The newspaper ones could be really great, and are definitely unique, but I'm having trouble visualizing it.

Oooh, what if instead of the table numbers on bottles, you made a little stand out of old books and put the number on those somehow.  I think I've seen that elsewhere on the knot.  Then I could see using the newspaper bottles with the centerpieces.  That vision works a little better for me.   Do a google search for book centerpieces or book table numbers to see if you like it.

Thanks! My friend did this for Christmas gifts this year, everyone got a set of four, and I thought it was so cute! I tucked it away into my mental 'ideas to steal' folder.
