Wedding in 2 weeks - and look horrible in my dress

Hi all -

Well I just went yesterday for my final dress fitting and - I look horrible in my dress. I bought it last October and it looked great. Suddenly - I have flab coming out all over the top. I've not gained any weight and in fact have firmed up quite a bit. But my arms looks terrible, the top is sitting up SO high its cutting into my arm pits, and sitting down is completely uncomfortable. I asked them to adjust the corsetting but that didn't help much.

Its too late to get a new dress so I'll just have to live with it, and losing a ton of weight in 2 weeks isn't possible. Its like they brought me a different dress. Size is the same - but when I bought it I looked really slim and pretty. Now - instead of the silk purse, I'm the sow's ear.

Anyone have any suggestions? I did actually look around for another dress on craigslist, but my mom bought this one for me, and it was more than we wanted to spend, so I can't get another. I'm going to do the 'tan fat looks better than white fat' route, and hope that hair and makeup can make me feel better. The one day I wanted to look pretty and it just doesn't look like it is going to happen.

  • do you still have your hair and makeup trial before the wedding? if so, i would make it a point after your hair and makup is done, to try on your dress with your veil, hair piece, jewelry, shoes, ect and take a full length picture of yourself or look at yourself in a full length mirror. being completely put together from head to toe, do you still notice the little imperfections? i bet not. as women we are almost always our own worst critics and if we focus on the little things, we lose sight of the overall beautiful picture. plus, if you focus on how excited you are and how you feel to know that you are marrying your best friend, you'll simply be glowing with excitement both inside and out :)

best of luck with your wedding, i'm sure you will be a beautiful bride!

Ok, so not seeing the dress before or after pictures, I bet you look great, especially when you get all of your hair and make-up and accessories on. There's a reason you got the dress in the first place, and since you haven't gained weight, maybe you're having a skewed perspective day? I know I have days like that, where I can literally look at the same picture of myself one day and think I look awesome, and another day look horrible.

As to the discomfort of the dress, I've heard that the corsets loosen over the course of the day, so by the time you actually get down the aisle, it will be more comfortable.

If you're still worried about spilling out over the top or whatever, maybe look into a jacket or a bolero? You could get one of those quickly and not have to worry about altering it and stuff.

  • Did you wear a different bra?

I had the same exact problem, I freaked out and went on a crash diet.  Then I tried it on with the original bra.  crisis averted.

Have you considered getting cups sewn in instead of wearing a bra?  It'll take up less room in the dress so theoretically less of you can escape out the top.

If none of that helps, drink lots of water, avoid salt, alcohol and processed foods.  That'll help you at least not be bloated.

If that's  not enough, the South Beach diet is supposed to help you drop a good deal water weight in the first 2 weeks.
  • Thanks ladies.

I am doing the lots of water, no salt, and high protein thing for the next 2 weeks. The bra was a good point. It was different then the one I tried on when I first bought the dress. In fact - I don't think I wore one at all when I tried it on. It was so corseted that the ones in the shop at the time didn't fit. I bought one online and it arrived today and I have the silicone things so that might help, And I went online at light in the box and found 2 wraps for $26 so if all else fails, I can cover up my arms!

    Thank you everyone!
  • Girl, it is so the bra then.  You had  more room in the dress before.  Adding the bra gives YOU less room to be inside, so you have to go somewhere, and it's unfortunately up and over.

Try it without the bra and you'll be relieved and happy with your appearance, I'm SURE OF IT
  • If you still might be interested, I have a lace bolero in ivory I'm selling. I posted this on a few other boards too, but it's an XL and has 3/4 sleeves. Here is a pic of what it looks like:

I have a few pics of what it looks like when I tried it on with my dress if you want to see what it looks like too.
