Response Date

We are getting ready to order our invitations and I was curious as to what to put as the response date.  Our caterer needs a final count 14 days before the wedding but I'm assuming I need to build in some more time to follow up with people who don't send their responses by then.  I was going to say a month before but didn't know if that was too much time.  TIA :-)

I had a hard time deciding on this and changed at the last second!

We have to give a final count 10 business days before our wedding on July 21st so the RSVP date is June 15th. I had originally done May 31st but felt like that was a little far in advance. I'm planning on sending  out the invitations on the earlier side to give myself plenty of time to chase down people who don't respond!

  • I've heard a week before you have to tell the caterer the number is perfect.  It gives you time to call people who you haven't heard from, but not so much time before the wedding that you get a lot of last minute "whoops, I can/can't come after all!" calls from having a super early RSVP.

  • We put our RSVP date of June  1st for our June 30th wedding.  We will be sending out the invites mid-April.
  • We did May 28th for our June 18th wedding
  • We're doing May 25th for our June 16th wedding. Caterer needs the final numbers two weeks before, so we did one more week before that.
  • We are doing July 7th for our August 4th wedding. Our calligrapher is doing the escort cards and I want to leave enough time for myself to figure out the seating and for her to make the cards.

  • We ended up having to go super early, knowing that some people might back out as it gets closer- February 24 for April 14- this is partially because we were planning to do the dreaded A list/B list and also because both FI and I have a ton of relatives that are super hard to get ahold of and really flighty.

We also need to let our venue know 2 weeks before. Our RSVP date is a month before.
I just didn't feel like a week was long enough to track people down and figure out the seating chart.

  • My response date is August 1 for my September 1 wedding. I wanted to allow for some buffer time for late responses and the deadline to tell my venue the final count.

  • We were thinking Sept 1 for our Sept 22 wedding.
  • We did May 21st for our June 11th wedding last year.  That gave the guests almost 2 months to respond (we sent our invites out April 1st) and gave us 3 weeks to give MIA replies some time to come in, then check on ones that didn't come, and then finally count everything up - the caterer needed a head count by the last week.
