when to send out invites

My wedding is May 18th of this year. Just finishing up addressing the invites. When should I send them out? One place I read said 3 months and another said 6-8 weeks?

    Do you have a lot of people coming from out of town?  The majority of our guests will be traveling in from out of state, and our wedding location is a very popular wedding location in Minnesota, so we'll be sending out invites 3 months in advance.  Mainly to give people pleny of time to make travel arrangements and book a hotel for the weekend.  If most guests are local, I think 6-8 weeks is just fine.

    We did 10 weeks because we had some international guests and when our venue needs final numbers.

    We're also doing 10 weeks. There's no rule about this, only guidelines.
