XP: PLEASE let the state shutdown end!!!

How selfish of me to want the shutdown to end for my wedding...BUT...To make a long story short, the MN state shutdown may just be messing with my wedding!

The venue for my reception is a curling club/community center.  And we have to bring an outside vendor in to do the bar service.  While we had the vendor picked a long time ago, they waited till AFTER the shutdown started to start the process of applying for the liquor license for the venue.  Well, we just met with them last night, and they told us they can't do it unless the state starts up soon.  There is a backlog of over 300 bars that are 'in line' waiting to get their license.  And if the state doesn't start up in the next couple weeks, the backlog will be too long for this license request to go through (apparently) for my Sept. wedding!

This is not good.

On a side note, we haven't applied for our marriage license yet either (dumb, I know).  But I wonder if we can.  I saw someone on the MN board talk about changing their drivers license and they were told you can do that.  I'll have to call the courthouse today and see if we can.  Ugh.

Vent over.

Yeah, we have a call in to our beverage service, to see how/if the liquor license problem is going to affect us.  My mom asked me what we would do if they can't provide their services & I said I guess we'd be having pop & punch!  Definitely not ideal, but there's not much else we could do!  We'll see what the beverage service says!

Yes you can get your marriage license.  It may take a bit longer than the 5 days to get it, but you can get it.  I would go asap to apply for it though, just to be safe!!!

It's definitely not selfish for you to want the shutdown to end!  It's adversely affecting a lot of people...

If the liquor thing doesn't work out... the bright side will be saving a LOT of money!  Wedding guests would undoubtedly understand if circumstances beyond your control affected your ability to serve them alcohol.

Ditto PPs... I'm pretty sure you can still get your marriage license.  Make sure to take care of that ASAP!!

Yeah, apparently Miller/Coors was going to have to pull their products from the shelves because their license expires soon, so we may be having to come up with an alternative to our Coors Light option for one of our beers for our wedding next weekend. VERY MINOR compared to what others are having to go through with this mess. But looks like it will all hopefully be settled soon!!! Fingers crossed, for far more significant reasons for everyone that's being affected.

On the marriage license note. FI and I went to the Brookdale Licensing Center last week and left with our license on the spot. I guess I didn't understand the whole process but I made an appointment online, showed up with the paperwork filled out, and we were out of there in about 10 minutes. The 5 day waiting period does not impact anything (i.e. they will not be mailing you anything) it just means that the paperwork you have to sign at your wedding is not valid until 5 days after you apply for it. So basically we were told when we applied on the 6th that we couldn't actually sign it until the 11th but was have it in our possession. I guess I could copy this into a separate thread but your marriage license, in terms of the application side of it, is not impacted by the state's issues. Hope this helps clear things up, I know people were worried, I know I was!!
