Need help with DIY project!

Hi ladies...I need to make some pomanders but I'm not really sure where to start! Has anyone ever made their own or does anyone know how to make them? What will I need, are they difficult to make, etc?

Thanks!

There was a great post about some beautiful ones by Martha Stewart with a link to the directions on the Oct. 2010 board.  If you haven't already seen it you should check it out.  A bunch of girls on that board are making them.   Hope this helps!

Are you looking to make paper ones, fake flower ones, or real flower ones??

I made some simple ones using a tissue paper flower from Martha Stewart. I made three of these flowers, then twisted them together and tied a ribbon. They are not super symmetrical, but I was looking for something a little less structured, so I was happy! PIB under DIY.

They weren't hard to make, actually really easy, but kind of time consuming. I think it took me about 10 minutes to make one, including the time to measure and cut the paper. The hard part is fluffing them without tearing the tissue paper.

I would recommend using a quilting cutting mat and rotary cutter. It made it really easy to cut multiple sheets at once and get a straight line. I used a mat, then a clear mat on top with a grid of one-inch lines that I slid the rotary cutter through. I think you could buy all of that pretty cheap at Michaels or anywhere they sell quilting tools.

Here's the directions for the flowers: http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/article/pom-poms-and-luminarias?backto=true&backtourl=/photogallery/paper-and-fabric-flowers#slide_8

What a lot of people do is make these flowers, then stick them into a styrofoam ball and hot glue them. It requires a lot more work, since you have to make a lot more flowers, but it ends up looking more symmetrical and fuller.

I think a girl on this board posted about it recently...I'll try and find it!

I did the 8 billion little tissue paper flowers on a styrofoam ball. Took forever, hurt my fingertips (twisting the wire) but I love them. Theyre my favorite DIY project. I made 8, 4 smaller & 4 bigger.
