Destination Invitation HELP NEEDED!

We're getting married next July in Dominican Rep.  We want to invite our entire guest list to the destination wedding, but know very well that most will not be able to make it.  So, we're planning a bbq for sometime that August.

Is it acceptable to send an announcement/save the date thing this July (a year earlier) with a response card asking guests if they'd a) like information about the destinationor b) like an invitation to the post-wedding celebration only?

The thing is that we do want to give people enough time to save/plan if they want to come, but we also want to let everyone know they are invited to the post-wedding celebration regardless.

Thoughts?

    [QUOTE]i  would just send a save the date card saying you are having a wedding in d.r. in july, followed by an at home reception/bbq in august. that way they have the option and can plan ahead if needed. i don't think you need to ask for responses at this point. you'll start to know whos coming on the trip, and whos not as you talk w/ people and it will give you a better idea.

    I agree with the pp. Send a save the date to everyone meantioning the DW and the AHR. Invite everyone to both events.

    I did the same...I sent STDs about 10 months in advance with the dates of our DW and our AHR. I also put in there the link to our wedding website which had information about booking for our DW. Most people that are going to jamaica with us booked when they got the STDs or kept open communication with me about wanting more info.

    We are sending out our invites within 2 weeks (The wedding is in july) and on the response card they can respond for the DW and AHR. The invitation has the information for both things as well.
