Newly Engaged! Venue Help

Hi all! I've been lurking the boards and decided to introduce myself!  My fiance and I are newly engaged and have started looking at wedding venues.

We live in the NE corner of CT, as does the majority of his family.  The majority of my family is 2 hours away in the NW corner of CT, and we have many guests that would be coming from out of state.   Our ideal venue would have a rustic setting and accomodations on site or close by, and be under 2 hours travel time from each family.

We've looked at Zukas in Spencer, MA (which we loved but it is in the middle of nowhere), and have appointments to look at Wrights Mill in Canterbury and Sturbridge Host Hotel in MA.  Has anyone been to a wedding at any of these locations that can offer any reviews?

Does anyone have suggestions for additional venues located in central CT or central MA?

Thanks in advance :)

Tanya

  • I don't know if these are in the area you are looking but a few rustic recommendations are:

The Barns at Wesleyan Hills in Middletown, CT (I'm getting married here)

    Webb Barn - Wethersfield, CT

    Tyrone Farm - Pomfret, CT

Unfortunately, I've never been to the ones you are going to but I hope this helped!

    Good luck & congratulations :)

    HI TANYA :)

I'm not crazy, I just know her pretty well in real life- so excited you posted on the boards, it makes me feel not so crazy...
  • Becky, this site is awesome, I can see why you're on it so much!!

Thanks for the info ladies.  Tyrone Farm's rental fee is way out of my price range but I will check the others out.
  • Congrats on getting engaged! There are several very nice venues in the Hartford area that seem to right in the middle of your 2 locations. I am getting married at the new Farmington Gardens in Farmington in July. It has a modern rustic feel which I fell in love with. Best of luck planning!

  • Congrats on your engagement! My FI and I almost went to look at Heritage Trail Vineyard in Lebanon, CT but we fell in love with the Webb Barn in Wethersfield (which is much closer to our home and family). The Heritage Trail Vineyard provides an event planner with your day and had extremely reasonable prices. Check them out and definitely email them for more wedding details. We were really impressed! http://www.heritagetrail.com/Heritage_Trail_Cafe_and_Vineyard/home.html
  • I'm so excited that I have someone that sits next to me every day that I can talk weddings with!! :)

  • Welcome and congrats on your engagement! :)

You may want to look into The Publick House in Sturbridge, MA.

I attended a Saturday afternoon wedding there, in the Paige Hall/Historic Barn and it definitely had a rustic feel. Let me know if you have any questions about it and I can give you my input from a wedding guest perspective.

  • Thanks for the info everyone!! One of my good friends is getting married at Publick House so I didn't look into it, but I did check out Salem Cross over the weekend which is close to Sturbridge and I loved it! I haven't looked into OSV yet but I will do that.
