Recommend Best Places to Register

FI and I are starting to think about where we might like to register, can you recommend the best places you have registered (in terms of customer service, return/exchange policy, rewards/benefits of registering there)?

TIA!

Re: Recommend Best Places to Register

  • I was very happy with our Macy's registry.  The people at our store were helpful, and you can register online.  The perks were good too.  There are some free gifts with registering for certain brands, and if you sign up for a macy's card you get a certain percentage of the ammount purchased for you in Macy's gift cards.

I know some people do not like Target because of their return policy, but we had no problems returning items that we got duplicates of, and one item that was not on the registry at all.

  • My favorite place is Bed Bath and Beyond.  I love the price points there (they are more consistent), the coupons are really nice for your guests to use, and they have a lot of the same brands available at Macy's.

We have a registry at Sears as well, because FI wanted it.  I honestly wouldn't recommend Sears unless you're deadset on registering for craftsman tools.

Macy's has an awesome registry program too.  Macy's also gives you a coupon for a free lip gloss from Clinique and a free makeup appointment with the Clinique consults, and a free little tote bag and some other coupons i can't remember right now.

Both Macy's and BB&B have registry incentives just for putting things on your list, and also completion bonuses after your wedding gifts have been purchased.  They also have completion coupons for you -- usually 20% off your total purchase to buy things on your registry.

A friend of mine registered at Williams-Sonoma, and honestly, I had trouble finding something for her because I don't normally shop there, so I never received coupons, and on top of that, their prices are a bit higher because they're in the mall.  REALLY nice kitchen things, however.  Highly recommended for quality.  Pricing just stinks for me!

  • Macy's all the way around! They have the best rewards program and you can earn 5-10% back of anything purchased off of your registry. They have so much to choose from and the quality of their products is high for the most part. Good luck.

  • I was very happy with Bed, Bath, and Beyond.  They had everything we wanted to register for and with the 20% off coupons, they were the cheapest.

  • We registered at Bed Bath and Beyond and REI (we both love to camp and hike). Our REI registry is only six items though. BBB was easiest since there is one close by every guest and they can use those 20% off coupons too.

  • I did not have such a great experience with BBB.  (a post for another day), BUT a lot of guests did go their for our shower/engagment gifts.  I had a much much better experience at Crate and Barell, and a lot of the gifts from there (especially bamboo and wicker items) were a lot higher quality than similar items at BBB, IMO.
  • We did BBB, Williams-Sonoma, and Pottery Barn.  So far I'm happy with all of them.

My aunt bought me a decanter off my registry from PB for Christmas, and it came without the stopper. I finally brought it back to PB in March, and they gave me the missing stopper no questions asked.  I don't think they even looked at the receipt.

  • My favorite place was Bed Bath and Beyond.  Their customer service has been great and also their return policy.  We had a corkscrew wedding gift break and we had thrown out the packaging and gift reciept (since we were using it).  We asked about it and they said "just bring it back and we'll refund it".  So we brought it back with no packaging and htey just looked it up on our registry and gave us a full refund!  It ws great!!

And it was the most used by our guests, I think the 20% coupons are a great draw.  I know for my friends weddings, I tend to shop there too.  So I'd definitely recommend looking there!

We also did C&B and Macy's.  Neither was used very much, so I don't have much feedback on them.
  • My favorite place has been Bed Bath and Beyond. The customer service is great, they have a lot of great incentives, and they send out coupons all the time that your guests can use.

  • I'm doing BBB and an Amazon registry.  We don't need a lot of the traditional stuff, so I'm mostly doing decor items on those registries and BBB just didn't have everything I like, so that's why I used Amazon as well.  I'm not big on going into the store to register, so both have been great so far because it's really easy to add things online.

  • Favorite Places: Macy's & Crate & Barrel

I'm not typically a Macy's girl, but they had the best service hands down. Returns were a BREEZE and they never hassled me once. I don't think Crate & Barrel has the best QUALITY products for the price, but they do have some very stylish products and it seems as though my guests preferred to shop there. EVERYTHING I registered for at C&B was purchased and their sister-site CB2.

    WORST Places: Amazon.com & Williams & Sonoma

Never in my life have I experienced customer service so poor. Amazon.com told me I had to contact the "gift giver" if I wanted to return one of the items, because it was sold through a "third party store." All I wanted was a store credit and there was "no way" to do this without notifying the person who bought me the gift? Seriously? HORRIBLE experience.

I went to Williams & Sonoma to exchange some Le Creuset pots that I received for a different color. They could process the exchange because the pots were purchased from their "e-commerce store" so they had to ship them to the "e-commerce store" and they would mail me a GC. I just about lost my mind. This is 2011. You need to update your interface. I immediately deleted the rest of my Williams & Sonoma registry.

I would HIGHLY recommend AGAINST registering at Amazon or Williams & Sonoma. The last thing you want after you come back from your honeymoon is a customer service nightmare/headache. I would also highly recommend spending a lot of time creating your registry, since returns are not fun and generally a hassle and after you finish planning the most amazing day of your life, all you really want to do is rest, not spend hours upon hours at the mall handling returns/exchanges!

I registered at Amazon.com and haven't had any issues. I've had pretty great customer service so far, even when I had to return something. I thought it was really easy to create the registry since its like you're just shopping on Amazon.

  • We are registered at Bloomingdale's, Williams Sonoma, and Crate and Barrel.  I highly recommend all of them, but I am IN LOVE with Bloomingdale's.  We've had the best experience.

We had an absolutely horrific experience at Macy's.  I would never in a million years suggest registering there, but I'm glad that others have had good experiences.

  • Many people here have registered at BBB, Macy's, and Crate & Barrel. FI and I plan on registering at BBB, Target, and Kohl's. People say that Target has a horrible return policy but they've recently changed it and I've gotten confirmations by Target via e-mail that I will be saving so I do not have any problems in the future. Also, I love Kohls. And we're also registering there because 2 weeks after our wedding is black friday... so anything we don't get, we'll probably get then and Kohl's always has ridiculous deals. [:

  • we registered at target, macys, and bb and b. we got some things we did not register for at target that people bought us there anyway that we cannot use or already had. if you dont get a gift reciept, (and not everyone gives them) it makes it very difficult to return at target.

i have had nothing but fabulous experinces at bb and b and macys
  • We registered at BBB and Target.

I love BBB's customer service when something breaks. I have brought back 2 Keurig machines (bought them for work so they are used WAY more than is recommended) without the packaging or a receipt. They let me drop them at customer service, then walked me back to small appliances and pulled a new one off the shelf. Then, I walked out the door, no questions asked. It took five minutes tops. If you decide to return something from your registry, they'll also give you cash instead of a store credit/exchange. Big fan of that.
  • We registered at BBB and love it so far. The customer service is great and I like that we can exchange any gift we receive for anything else in the store for equal or lesser value (in case we get like 5 sets of towels, but no silverware).

  • MyRegistry.com is our "master" registry if you will, but we used it because i could sync registries I had with other stores. the other stores were:

    Bloomingdale's
    Macy's
    Amazon

And then a few odds and ends from Ikea, Pier 1, Anthropologie, and our china from Lenox.com.
  • We're registered on Amazon and LOVE it.  We can find almost anything on there.  We haven't had any problems with them at all.  And it's been really convenient since our family is ALL over the place.  Most of our items have free shipping to us.
