Dear whoever thought it was a good idea to change everything about Excel for the new Windows, or F*ckface, for short:

I would love to meet you in person so that I can hear the logic that went into changing the format of a program everyone had gotten used to and been using for about twenty years without actually adding any valuable new features. I'd especially like to know what made it seem like a good idea to make the new format less counterintuitive than ever, and harder (if not impossible) to custom format charts and graphs. Do you suppose that the computer is smarter than its users, and knows what its users want without being told? Do you suppose that more than that, the computer knows what its users want and need even if the users disagree with the computers' assessment? More importantly, if you were to take a Turing test, would you pass?

Hmmmm... I've had no problems at all with it. I've been happy with the changes they made to Word as well. Sorry you're having a hard time.

OMG yes. My single biggest complaint about new Excel is what they did to graphing. There are some graph types that I still haven't figured out how to make. And I also don't appreciate that their graph templates all assume that we can print everything in color. I can't, it's prohibitively expensive and this results in me spending a lot of time making sure my graphs are all black and white friendly.

seconded in regards to changing Word. i had a hell of a time figuring out how to scan to a word doc, among other things.

I'm (finally) supposed to get a new work laptop at the end of 2010 or early 2011- i'm not looking forward to figuring out the new software or the constant queries from older coworkers on how in the world they use the new software. (I'm the baby of the group, so therefore the most tech savvy.) I only have the new versions of Word/Excel/etc. on my home computer, so barely use them.

Agreed. I was helping H with a project last night and was ready to throw the laptop across the room. Why do away with the basic menu system?

And P.S. to the people within my company who decided to distribute the update to about 10 people per month: Hurry it up please. If there is anything worse than the update, it is dealing with a constant flow of co-workers that either don't have the update or that just got it and are terribly confused and sending me files stained with tears.

Hell, I used to teach classes in excel basics, and it took me 30 min to find the friggin SAVE AS command the first time I used 'new' excel.
For peole who were really competent w/ excel, it sucks.
Although it is job security, the math people have had me hellp them figure out how to do all their mathy graphy crap in the new one :P

I haven't tried Excel, like, ever, but I like Word2007. H just got Office Suite 2010, but he can only install on one computer, so we're waiting to get a new, good one for that. They didn't move anything, did they? I mean, I don't use much, so maybe office-y people use stuff that moved, but I've been able to find all the turn-offs I need (auto spell-check, grammar check, smart quotes, etc.).
