"Family dance" with our kids...

Hi! We have 3 children (10, 8, & 3) & I want them involved somehow in the first dances. We were thinking that immediately after our first dance is done, we would start into another song (but not play the entire song, just maybe the first verse & first chorus) and having our children join us. Our first dance song is either going to be Eric Benet & Tamia 'Spend My Life With You' or Maxwell 'Fortunate'. Then I was thinking we'd go into Barry White 'My First, My Last, My Everything' since that's one of "our songs" and we dance around the house to it w/our kids. Thoughts?? Thanks! :)

  • I think that is a great way to incorporate your kids and it would be a special memory that all of you will have together.  I am sure that your guests will find a lot of joy by just watching all of you up there together.

    Go for it!  ;)

  • I'd say go for it as long as all of your dances are short. Are you doing parent dances also? Dances are generally boring for guests, so I'd suggest cutting the music down a lot.
  • Thanks OBX2011. I know our children would love to share in the moment, even if it's brief. Misssunshine17, we are doing a combo father/daughter & mother/son dance. We aren't doing those separately because we don't particularly care for a lot of attention. Lol. So there wouldn't be alot of "special dances." Just the two. Thanks, but we are not cutting down any songs. As my OP states, we werent going to do an entire song for our "family dance." It is a special day for our entire family as it has been a long time coming, so we are going to enjoy every moment. Our guests wont mind because they all love us & know our story. With them knowing how strong our family unit is & how much we love our kids, our guests would find it odd that our children weren't involved.

Oh yes do it... you won't regret it! Last summer I married a widower with two young girls.  We had them join us for the last minute or so of our first dance and it was such a great moment for us as a new family.  (plus the pictures are really sweet too :) )  I'd just make sure the kids are all ok with it first...
