Wondering your opionion about this venue...?

So my fiance and I found a venue in Bonney Lake called Kelley Farm and love it. It is a beautiful barn that has been remodeled for events with a large patio. They don't have a website, just a facebook page with little information. I contacted the owner and inquired about the price of the venue in summer of 2012 and was told $4500. Afterwards I was looking on their facebook though and she had told someone else who was asking the price of summer 2011 and she said $3600! The price of the venue has gone up $900! This totally makes me wonder and kind of feel like I'm being ripped off. What do you guys think?

That sounds really sketch imo.  I would look for another venue.  There are a ton of barn venues in Snohomish county, but there must be more South of Seatte.

You may be.. Or they may have switched owners. And "summer" is june or july- september in the wedding world, so that depends on that, too.
I would want to know waht that 4,500 includes though?!!Because that's CRAZY high for a washington barn. For that price, tables and chairs BETTER be included, and I would hope linens/china as well.. or I don't know if that's worth it.. Also, what is their alcohol policy? How much time does that include? Does that include an on-site coordinator?

If you love that look, look up Craven Farms.
    It's beautiful as well.

She said that tables and chairs are included, not linens. I did not ask about alcohol yet. She said there is an onsite coordinator, but she made it clear that that person will not be my wedding planner. Thanks for your input guys. I just started this whole process and don't know what is best for our money yet.

I will tell you that my venue is 1g for the entire day and includes a mic/speakers, tables, and chairs. No coordinator, and those are always nice. Does this place do food themselves? Idk.. that just seems kinda steep to me. I haven't seen a single venue here in Washington that is that much and just includes tables/chairs. BUT if you love it and your budget allows...

I agree that price is steep, but having the space and tables/chairs for 300 is pretty awesome if you plan to have a wedding that big. I'm way up in Whatcom County, but I didn't find anything here that could hold over 250.     Have you called her to ask about the difference in pricing?  Maybe she made a mistake somewhere and she'll give you break.

Regardless - it looks GORGEOUS and I hope they give you a deal!

I looked up Craven Farms and it is beautiful! We will have a lot of family coming from the Gig Harbor and Tacoma area though and I think it is just a bit too far. The venue works with only their preferred caterers only, but some seem reasonable. There is another barn venue in Auburn called Wine and Roses Country Estate and it is $4250! Jeeze! You would think having your wedding in an old barn in the middle of nowhere would be cheaper! We will be having around 200, so the space would be nice. Thanks for the input guys!

There is one through the City of Issaquah (pickering farms?) that is cheaper.

Places do raise their prices from year to year, but $900 is alot! Keep looking around there are more and more barns being put up. I actually used TK search of local vendors...

Yeah I don't understand why barns are so crazy pricey.. You would think they would be much cheaper than more formal places. >_< I think they are taking advantage of the fact that it's the new hot trend.

jales- yay for whatcom county brides! Where's your venue? :)

Pretty much every barn venue I looked at had crazy pricing (I'm getting married at Craven Frams). Venues do change their pricing from year to year. It's also already summer of 2011, the drop in price could very well be because they had a weekend still open this close to the wedding day. She may also have been asking about a Friday/Sunday date or even a weekday which would drastically change the price versus a Saturday wedding, but regardless I would call and ask about the price difference.

ETA: 300 capacity is a lot, which is probably why they have crazy pricing, as even most of the barns I looked at couldn't hold that many. (Craven can only accomodate 120 inside)

That sounds about right price range to me - I just toured 10+ venues last week and thats about what all the outdoor venues asked for in the south sound area. Kelley Farm is beautiful, I've heard nothing but good things. I would tour it and you'll know if it feels right to you and get a better idea of what they charge and whats included in the cost. It's very hard to get those estimates over the phone! Good luck!
