Reception Site Search

We are looking for a reception site in greater tidewater va area. We love the gardens at the Chrysler Art Museum, but just can't afford the $5K price tag. We are hoping for an old/historic space and are willing to work with "non traditional" places like the Macarthur memorial or the public library on Freemason in Norfolk, but as of yet we haven't had any luck finding an affordable place.

Suggestions would be great!

We are having the ceremony and reception at the Boxwood Inn in Newport News near Lee Hall.  It is a historic house built in 1896 and has beautiful outdoor spaces.

The Yorktown Freight Shed is on Riverwalk in Yorktown near the historic houses.

There is also Lee Hall Mansion in Newport News (not sure how much that is).

Some friends had a very nice wedding that they threw for not too much at Willow Manor Country Estate in Providence Forge.  It was really pretty, and a really nice older house.  It was part indoors and part outside.  You may want to check it out.

Other ideas (again, not sure of cost, and sorry that they are all on the Peninsula) are Mariners Museum, Hampton Air and Space Museum, The Living Museum, Ferguson Center, the modern art museum next to Mariners.

    Good Luck!

I had both my ceremony & reception at Contemporary Art Center of VA in va beach.  The rental price was under $5k for both rooms and they let you bring in your own rentals - caterers, florist, DJ, cake, etc. - so you can find some bargains!

    Their website is cacv.org

You could try the Yacht Club at Marina Shores.. For $5999 you have the reception site.. This also includes the florist, the photographer, the cake and the caterer.. You can also have the ceremony there inside or outside!
This is where I am having my reception.. It makes things So much easier and all of the vendors are great.. My photographer and I have been in contact pretty much since I booked there.. The cakes I tried are AWESOME.. I met with the florist the other day and he is GREAT!  Everyone has been so helpful and so kind to my family and I..
Not sure if this is something you were looking for but just wanted to share because its a great deal!

I got a lot of recommendations for the Portsmouth Women's Club.  I couldn't find any photos online, but I'm glad that I did a drive by.   It's a charming little place that is very affordable.
