  As long as you make sure you have enough candy for all of your guests, I think this is fine. It will be cute.
  
  Also, since it's going to be a smaller display, I would do it on a small table so it doesn't look lost on a larger surface.

  I just found a GREAT deal on candy at amazon.com. Ordered 40 lbs of candy for $118 (and free shipping)!! The candy is by Koppers (a delicious gourmet brand) and they have hundreds of varieties in every color of the rainbow. They're on sale right now for 50-60% off! Go to Amazon and search for "koppers". (Not sure how long the sale lasts, though.) Much cheaper than mm's and jelly bellys. mm's website wanted $140 for 5lbs of personalized candies- not for this budget bride!
  
  I plan to fill assorted jars and dishes with the candies then provide mini scoops and treat bags for the guests to fill them. Going to borrow the candy dishes from family members or go to the dollar store and get creative! A candy buffet on the CHEAP!

  Thanks for getting me in the right direction!! I always forget that the dollar store has some good things from time to time. I have been using the Craft store Michaels and they are expensive when it comes to glassware.
  Have you been told when is a good time to purchase the candy in regards to wedding date? The more I can do a little here and there will help, but the wedding isn't until October and I would hate for my guests to be dispointed with poor tasting candy. I was at a wedding where you could taste the kisses had been old or left out in a warm temp. because they were so dried out.
  Anyways, thanks again and I bookmarked the amazon.com candy for future reference!!

  I bought all my candy between 1-3 months prior to the wedding, and everything tasted great. Most candy will keep a surprisingly long time.

  If you have a Ross or TJ Maxx that is where I got my dishes for my candy bar! They are perfect & have lids since ours is outside! They were like $10 each & JoAnne's wanted $30 each for smaller ones!

  I work at TJMaxx for my second job in order to pay for the wedding and it has been so helpful I'm glad I got a job there. I have gotten all of my candy buffet containers there and they are a way better price than any other places. Michaels also works great for getting containers if you get their coupons I get them in my Email and use them through my Iphone those coupons have been a life saver.

  For my candy I have really shopped around at bulk sections at grocery stores. During the holidays, luckliy my colors are pink and green and i got lots druing valentines day and now easter.  I got several pink heart candy after vday was over and got awesome deals. $1.99 lb for jordan almonds. Can you beat that? Just look around for sales.
