Maldives

Has anyone started planning a honeymoon in the Maldives or knows someone who has gone there? Just looking for some opinions and advice if you liked it? We are looking at a couple hotels and all inclusives but I would like to hear other peoples experiences before we book.

Thank you!

Re: Maldives

  • My sister will be going there in less than a month, but I helped her with the research. They are staying at Six Senses Laamu and it looks amazing!

I say go for it! Did you narrow down your hotel list?
  • Thank you! Six senses looks amazing! We really want to keep it around 10k but I am worried we wont have enough, do you know any hotels you think that would work for? I want to be there for 7 nights... I know flights from here average around 1500 a piece but it is my dream vacation! I am thinking we might have to up the budget a little but I would love to hear from someone who made it work with 10 :)
  • tessb1125, which month are you going?

Is your 10k budget just for the hotel only or including tickets, food, excursions, etc?
If it's for everything it would be a bit tight since ticket alone would be around 3k for both of you, so that leaves 7k for everything else for 7 nights - sounds a bit tight but not impossible.

Most hotels are around 1000/night, there are some that are less...
The Hilton Maldives is actually around $600 for the water villa (I'm just putting in a random date in early December, but prices might fluctuate depending on the date). ..and reviews are pretty good.
    Velassaru Maldives is around $702/night.

I would recommend going through a travel agent who specialized in the Maldives because they can probably get you some special pricing. I think for my sister, her prices were lower than anything she found online, and it included extras such as free dinner, massage, etc. Let me get you the travel agent info.
  • Oh nevermind, just checked with her she ended up booking with the hotel directly :p
  • I'm in the process of planning a trip there next year. We really wanted to have our DW there, but in the end, we didn't want to have a ceremony there and then another civil one back here. As others have said, $10K is probably a little tight, but could be doable if you are willing to not stay at the most expensive place in the most expensive rooms. We're looking at a minimum of $10K for our trip, but it won't include airfare since I have a crap load of miles and I'll probably use hotel points for part of the stay. There are some more reasonable places, but they will not be the private island resorts.  Also, just some food for thought- we went to Mauritius and the Seychelles last Fall and it took us two full days of travel to get there and back. granted, I was coming from the West Coast, but it really eats into your time. Definitely factor that in.

we are going there for our HM the end of August.  We booked directly with the hotel and the flight with the airline.  we were able to find a good deal for the hotel.
the flight is expensive as we are leaving from NY but making a long (4 days) layover in Dubai.
We are staying at the Full Moon Sheraton, it's very close to the airport in Male.
I would say go with a travel agent if you're unsure.

I think I may have said this before, but now that I see you are staying at the Sheraton, I definitely want to hear about your trip when you get back! I am SPG Platinum and have a ton of points, but was thinking that I didn't want to spend the enormous amount required to stay at the W. So, I'm very curious to see about the Full Moon!
