Vegetarian wedding in/near Boston

Does anyone have any suggestions for a vegetarian friendly venue/catering in the Boston area?  We're looking for something not too pricey (around $5-6000 for food, alcohol and venue total) for about 50-60 people in May 2012.  It doesn't have to be fancy food, but preerably not vegetarian as an afterthough - for example, no eggplant parm or sad looking plates of cheese and crackers.  We're leaning towards a Saturday night, but would be open to other evenings if we got a great deal as we only have a handful of people that would be inconvenienced by a week day wedding.  We definitely want an evening reception and somewhere that has a dance floor as I want a real party!

I've looked at tons of venues online, but the when you throw catering and rentals into the works the number of variables makes my head spin.  Any advice would be appreciated.

    I had vegetarian Indian food at my wedding and it was very welll received... probably because my half of the list was Indian. :)

    It might be easier to get a venue where you can bring in your own caterer. If you have a favorite veg restaurant, definitely check if they do catering.

    I know of Mitch with Affairs Catering, I would talk to him.  He has been amazing to work with with the plethora of food allergies and specifications I have.  I have a couple vegetarians and he defintely was able to help create good options for them. I am using Groveland Fairways for a venue, I think it would be in your budget definitely check them out but they might be too big for you.

    I can recommend a good caterer who makes amazing food and will work with you on any menu you wish but my venue isn't exactly open to the public.  My caterer is Lisa Shaw Catering and she is outstanding.  I recommend her without reservation.  I have been to several of her events and they are always flawless.  I am a vegetarian and I've always had great food from her.

    You might also want to check out Henrietta's Table.  They do some really excellent vegetarian stuff and they are a part of the Charles Hotel in Cambridge.  I think you could have them cater an in-house wedding in the hotel but you'd have to check on that.

    Give your guests plenty of options. We let our guests choose off the menu, this gave them some ownership in their choices. There was an excitement, a buzz at our table when guests were eating. People were looking around and asking: What did you get? What is that? Let me try some? The dinner was a culinary adventure. Some of the menu items were sea palm strudel, mushroom stuffed ravioli, quinoa pilaf, creamy red bell pepper and carrot soup with coconut milk....fun!

    Honestly, any caterer worth their dust should be willing to work with a vegetarian menu.  There are so many creative, interesting vegetarian dishes that are not difficult to make.

    I would ask caterers and venues if the chefs are willing to work off the menu.  I'm using Topsfield Common in Topsfield, MA, and the reason I chose it was because they said they would be able to do a heavy hors d'oeuvres reception and we can negotiate menu items and basically FI and I can pick and choose what we want within our price range.

    I think people get tired of the old 'chicken or fish' option (and as a vegetarian, the summer I went to 4 weddings in 6 weeks I was SO sick of pasta primavera that I couldn't eat it for a year).  They want interesting food that they will enjoy, not just something to act as a base for all the alcohol they will consume.

    I am a vegetarian and getting married at Topsfield Commons next May.  They do all in house cooking (no caterers) and their menu has at least 4 vegetarian options.  I haven't done my tasting yet so I can't say for certain how good the vegetarian food is, but I've only heard fantastic things about their food!  However, they have a 125 person minimum for Saturday nights... I don't think there is a minimum for other days of the week though.  So far all my contact with them has been wonderful - they are very responsive and really care about their clients!  :)

    Oh I also want to mention that you purchase your own alcohol from a distributor so the cost for alcohol is a lot less than you would find at other places!
