Holy crap, registering is exhausting.

FI and I spent 7 hours today doing our registry. SEVEN. HOURS. And that doesn't include the time we spent last night researching everything first. We're basically starting brand new, since I live with my parents and he has an apartment with crappy college-grade stuff. So we basically need EVERYTHING.

We went to Target first. Signed up, got the gun, and went around the store. It took us a little over an hour. Then we went to BB&B. We sat down with a guy who gave us like an orientation of sorts that took a while. Then he followed us out onto the floor and proceeded to stay with us for pretty much the entire time, explaining in great detail about every single product we were interested in. I know some people have complained about this before, but I have to be honest - the guy was super nice and EXTREMELY helpful. He wasn't pushy, he listened to what we wanted, and he backed off when we wanted him to. But since he did so much explaining, we ended up being there for HOURS. I finally just looked at FI and was like "we need to get the hell out of here before I smash that scan gun".

We got some dinner, then went home with the intention of finishing it up online. I worked on it some, but quite frankly I'm a little tired of comparing dish patterns and thread counts right now, ha.

I hear ya! We went twice and lasted about 1 hour at each store and still have tons to do. FI has had his own house for about 5 years and I have lived alone for a while so we have everything. I want to get new stuff and stuff together but he fights everything saying we don't need more "crap."

  • I've started ours online for the stuff like china and silverware that I had already scoped out in store a few months ago and are unlikely to be discontinued. I am dreading doing the in store part that is necessary because this is real WORK. I thought I would love this part, but there are so many choices and decisions!!

<div>OMG yes. I have people telling me "now's the time to ask for the top of the line stuff because you want it to last" etc etc, but then I see the price tag and I think "jesus, no one is going to want to buy us a $200 food processor. There has to be one that's just as good and less expensive", and then I spend 30 minutes comparing food processors online. It really shouldn't be this hard, haha.</div>

  • Registering is a serious chore!  My FI was unwilling to go with me so my mom and I went on two scouting trips to pick patters and price compare.  Each trip probably took two hours.

I then created the three registries online.  Our Belk registry took 2 hours, our BBB took another 2 and our Williams-Sonoma only took 1.  It's a lot of work!

  • We've only done online and I have NO intention of going into a store with a gun and doing the instore part lol! I know that would be disasterous lol
  • BMcLeod- I would reconsider your decision not to register in store.  I registered for several things online and when I saw them in-store I realized they were not what I expected (too small, poor quality, etc.).  The sales people can also give you a heads up on what may be discontinued anytime soon.

If you get scan happy you can always remove the extra items online later.

Agreed. We picked our flatware and drinkware based on how they felt as well as how they looked. Same with linens and towels.

  • This is why I think we aren't even going to register.  We already live together and we both lived apart before we moved in together, so we have two of everything already.  Our little townhouse is already filled!  It's a running joke in our families that we have Lowe's date nights....which is actually kind of true.  It seems like we always end up at Lowe's.  I do need a new dishwasher and some paint for the house.  Wonder if they have a registry?  LOL!

  • Yeah, I was excited at first and now I'm dreading it. Mostly because I know FI will get cranky and irratable. We're registering at Belk and BB&B and then doing an online REI registry. We'll dot he REI another day and I gave him the option of suffering an entire day or doing one two different days and apparently he just wants to get it over with. =P I told him I'm not going myself so that's not even an option. We're going to Belk first, then we'll have lunch somewhere in between, and then BB&B. I promised I'd buy him a couple of beers at lunch to take some of the sting away. =P
  • OMG registering. I did BBandB and Macys and I swear I've been to each store 3 times with their darn guns. It does take FOREVER. And not only do you finally think you are done, but then you need to go through and really look at the prices of everything (ie no one is going to buy you a 150 dollar blender, gotta go back and find a 50 dollar one).

  • I spent 3 hours online at The Bay and Home Outfitters and we still have to make an appointment to go in store for beddings (I refuse to choose it without feeling it - it's a little different from a toaster!).  FI is no help at all.  "Let's add a PS3!"  Yeah, no baby.  I'm afraid of the gun visit.... I dread the bedding debates that will ensue....

I'm glad we're keeping it really small - we have a lot of stuff already and kinda hope for cash over gifts, so we only registered for a few things we could use upgrades on.  Everyone knows we've been shacked up two years and I've been living on my own for 11, so we really don't need much!

(On a side note, FMIl already bought two items on the registry... we're 7 months out still.  She's so gung-ho about this wedding LOL)
